Lost in transit: Summicron-M Asph 28/2 S/No. 4096915

Early February, send 2 lenses from the UK to Leica Customer Care in Solms in separate packages. One gets there, the other doesn't.

Both packages used the UK Royal Mail's 'International Tracked and signed' service, so I could trace their whereabouts online. The trail of the missing package went cold in the GLS (Royal Mail's German delivery partner) warehouse in Rennerod, about 50km by road from Solms.

Complain to Royal Mail and get standard reply that the package is confirmed to be on its way back, but could take up to 12 weeks  (early-June, from the time the reply was received). That was 2 weeks ago...

There is a chance that the lens has 'escaped' from its return path and is being offered for sale. If so, please let me know.

I'll keep you posted on developments.

Thanks!

Some years ago I had a similar experience in that a tracked/insured parcel went missing in Germany. Long after all hope had been lost and I'd been compensated it suddenly turned up! So you may just still find that it appears - hopefully.

If you ask, Customer Care will e-mail a DHL label, and you can then either arrange a pick-up or take to a collection point (in my case a very nice local coffee shop).

When you say Solms, I hope this is not address where you sent, as Leica moved out a couple of years ago!
