10.4.10 update

Adds RAW image decoding support for the following cameras: Panasonic DMC-LX1, Panasonic DMC-LX2, Leica M8, Leica D-LUX 2, Leica D-LUX 3, Fuji S5 Pro, Nikon D40x, and Canon EOS 1D Mk III.

Resolves an issue in which some DNG images may appear tinted or distorted.

Opened up a D-Lux 2 RAW in Aperture and it worked fine. Unfortunately the quality seemed to be poor in comparison to Raw Developer, my RAW software of choice.

Looks like I'll keep "developing" in Raw Developer, and organising and final tweeking in Aperture.

This is, imho, good news. I was just thinking today that I need to find some way to organize images better than I am now. Any advice offered here will be avidly read by at least one reader, namely me.

The M8 support is measured. Updating to the latest version of the Mac OS, 10.4.10, is necessary for M8 support. 10.4.10 showed as available for download when I just started software update on a PBG4. I didn't trigger the update, but now plan to.

Not just any Mac will run Aperture. The particulars are here:

http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/index.html

Note that there are both minimum specs and recommended specs. At first blush it looks like Intel Macs are preferred, but others may do (espec. with maxed out RAM I'd expect).

Apple does offer a free trial for Aperture. I am curious about the ins and outs of that, too.

Thanks in advance for any explorers who post more info here.

This is great news for me as well. I gave up on Apple giving support for Leica D-Lux cameras and until today. Very nice! It so happens I was not the only one who kept on bombarding them to develop RAW support.

Maybe Steve Jobs purchased a Leica lately and found out his OS couldn't support it. Hence, the OS-level support rather than an Aperture plug-in. Har har.

Well, I actually tried it before I head off to work. It works for images shot with the latest firmware, but my older images are not recoginzed. The preview shows up in Aperture, but remains very small. Looks like it will only support firmware 1.10.2 or later.

Oh well. At least they finally support it.
