leica1215 Posted March 22, 2017 Share #1  Posted March 22, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was considering the sf40 hence 64 I think is a bit too big, so I remember that some non leica branded flash will work with M, any others work with SL? Advertisement Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 Hi leica1215, Take a look here Any non leica brand flash work well with SL?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
geetee1972 Posted March 22, 2017 Share #2 Â Posted March 22, 2017 All Nikon mount flah units will work, they just won't offer TTL metering and output. Â The SF40 is clearly a rebrande Metz M400 and indeed, there is a version of this that at least purports to be compatible with Leica, meaning, I pressume, that it offers TTL metering and output: Â https://www.parkcameras.com/p/9353654P/flashguns-panasonic-fit/metz/mecablitz-m400-flashgun-for-olympuspanasonicleica

You need a Nikon camera to set some variables on the SB 800. That`s the reason why I bought SF 64.

It's a re-badged i40.  The flash you reference is designed to do TTL on the Panasonic/Leica cameras. ie: those following the 4/3 protocols (Olympus and Panasonic). Unfortunately the "real" Leicas don't use that so for  S, SL, M and T cameras you'll need a Leica branded flash for TTL.  Many other flashes work very well for auto or manual functionality though if you don't want/need TTL.  Gordon

It is slightly reminiscent of Hasselblad rebadging Sony A6000s and asking $8k for them .
AlexP Posted March 22, 2017 Share #8 Â Posted March 22, 2017 so SF64 will give you TTL?
denisavu Posted March 23, 2017 Share #9 Â Posted March 23, 2017 Yes, the SF64 will give you full functionality. In a multi-light setup, any manual flash would work.
FlashGordonPhotography Posted March 23, 2017 Share #10 Â Posted March 23, 2017 so SF64 will give you TTL? Â When matched with the SL you get TTL, assisted auto (aperture and ISO sent from camera but exposure via a sensor on the flash), manual and wireless slave (manual). Â You can set FEC via the camera OR flash and they'll both know. Head zooms to 200mm. Â Apart from wireless TTL it's a great hotshoe flash. Alo Ako Posted March 23, 2017 Share #11  Posted March 23, 2017 Its a damned lousy simple flash if you compare it with Canon, Nikon, Sony etc...Leica and flash, that`s a bug, not a feature
