I don't have an SL, but for portraits I prefer the 90/2 pre-ASPH, Elmarit-M and thin Tele-Elmarit in that order over the 75/1.4 or f/2.

I sold the 90AA as it had focussing cam problems that no one was able or willing to solve, and I never liked either its rendering or close in reduction of resolution at close distances. The 90/4 macro does sharp more harmoniously for my liking.

As other have pointed out, the super thin DOF of the Summilux is just too thin most of the time, and at f/2 or f/2.8 there are (and lighter) better options with a lot less focus shift. In some cases it's outstanding, though.

The 75/2 isn't bad at all, as long as high resolution is desired. Its overall rendering is generally very pleasing.

Sorry to bring up R80 as option, just curious about how this might be good option for portraiture on M240. Have Noct, 50 lux and 90 Elm and looking to add med telephoto. I have Canon 85 1.2 when I previously used 5D2 but it is a beast to lug around but I liked the results from 85mm. I also note 75mm Noct due later (and will no doubt be big $$$). I have found focusing the 90 to be much more difficult than the Nocti for some reason. Many thanks for any input

I used the 80lux on my M240 for a period of time before selling it to fund other glass. I found it rather cumbersome to use for long periods due to the need for an adapter, and I often felt uneasy potentially stressing the M-mount as the setup is rather front heavy. I often carried the entire setup at the adapter. The need to use liveview/the evf to focus was another downer for me. I can't deny that the 80mm is a wonderful piece of glass, but the cumbersome setup pushed me to sell it with the hope of picking up a 75lux someday. I've shot the 75lux and 80lux and without close inspection they give similar images, but I am quite sure a modern 75Noct will render differently from either. I do miss the 80mm - it is my favourite tele in the 80-100mm range. Sharp enough for me wide open and renders beautifully. As a portrait lens I can't recommend it enough if the rendering suits your taste. It would be my pick over the 75APO and 90AA, if you can get around the ergonomics on the M240.

To fill the tele void, I eventually picked up a 90AA which I have since sold as it never saw much use. I did find my Noct and 50lux asph (at MFD) easier to focus than the 90. I just never gelled with the framelines and focal length as a whole. Rangefinder shooting has definitely made me more inclined to shooting below 50mm.
