I have my first 2nd hand M8.2 received last week and just upgraded the firmware to 2.024. After that the red light keep blinking after pressing the shutter until removal of battery.

I have asked Leica customer care and they told me to replace the CCD which costs around EUR600. My M8.2 has less than 2000 shutter count.

Anyone has similar experience? Or it is common for M8.2 due to its age?

I must admit that I can't quite  follo the connection between complaint and solution, but Leica presumably knows best.

It is not a common failure and the repair price appears to be very reasonable.

Hey Chungangus,

Sorry to hear this. Please don't fall for their little CCD story that easily.

I have gone through this nightmare few months ago.

With my Leica m8.2 , while upgrading the firmware to 024. Same symptoms, same flashing red light as yours. I truly doubt my issue was any different than yours. it does sound identical.

The only solution I found after multiple tests, cards, wipes and whatever other solution I could think of was to call up Leica and tell them the firmware update has corrupted my camera.

The camera went to NJ Leica and was brought back to life free of charge. Came back with 024 firmware version but cleanly installed , with no issues. No CCD was changed !

So If I were you and were willing to part with your camera for few months, this sadly would be the only solution that I have found to remedy this firmware crisis.

Leica service people know about this bug and seem to be willingly wanna help to fix it.

So please explain them your problem in detail and also mention that there have been identical cases of this malfunction in the past.

good luck !

Keep us posted on how this develops.
