arnoldkramer Posted June 19, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 19, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) My discount 24mm arrived yesterday from Leica. It has been on order since early February, and, boy, was it worth the wait!
Advertisement Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Hi arnoldkramer, Take a look here 24mm Elmarit M arrived. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wparsonsgisnet Posted June 19, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 19, 2007 This is my most used lens, acquired in December just before I took delivery of my M8. It is *everything* promised by the images on ReidReviews and also by Puts' rave about it. enjoy!
cometsoft Posted June 19, 2007 Share #3 Posted June 19, 2007 I feel like it's my sharpest lens (35 cron ASPH, 70 cron 90 macro, 15cv). It would be nice to receive the filter though.
James Mitchell Posted June 19, 2007 Share #4 Posted June 19, 2007 I also love this lens on the M8. I was asked why a 24 when I have a 21 and 28. I have declined to answer. This lens is worth every penny.
James Mitchell Posted June 19, 2007 Share #5 Posted June 19, 2007 I use it with the 55mm B+W 486 filter, and find that not only is it not difficult to fit the hood on, but the color cast/drift is negligible.
innerimager Posted June 19, 2007 Share #6 Posted June 19, 2007 congratulations on an exquisite lens. Recently got a used one and absolutely love it. The best corner to corner sharpness I've ever seen among other attributes, and a very interesting and flexible perspective on the M8......Peter

luigi bertolotti Posted June 19, 2007 Share #8 Posted June 19, 2007 I also love this lens on the M8. I was asked why a 24 when I have a 21 and 28. I have declined to answer. This lens is worth every penny. Is it really DIFFERENT from the 21 ASPH ? I'm late for a rethink, found an as-new 21 asph when bought the M8, sent it to Solms for coding directly, still waiting for comeback, have a 28... have not in my mind to have 24 too... James Mitchell Posted June 19, 2007 Share #9 Posted June 19, 2007 Luigi, I don't have a Leica 21mm. I have a Kobalux 21/2.8. And my 28s are the Leica 28/2.8 ASPH and the Zeiss 28/2.8. So I can't comment on the Leica 21. My comment was purely about focal lengths.

alexander Posted June 19, 2007 Share #11 Posted June 19, 2007 so what viewfinder you use with the 24mm?? on the M8
James Mitchell Posted June 19, 2007 Share #12 Posted June 19, 2007 I use the M8's 24mm framelines. They pair with the 35. The Kobalux is a Japanese-made lens, not terribly available anymore. The company marketed under other brand names. I don't remember them off-hand, but I'm sure that others will know. The 21/2.8 is a very nice lens. alexander Posted June 19, 2007 Share #13 Posted June 19, 2007 what would you say is the difference to the 28mm?
James Mitchell Posted June 19, 2007 Share #14 Posted June 19, 2007 A quick search of Kobalux brought up the names Avenar, Bower and Pasoptik. Not sure about Bower, but definitely Avnear made one of the three versions of the 28/2.8, as far as I know. Maybe it was marketed under the different names. James Mitchell Posted June 19, 2007 Share #15 Posted June 19, 2007 Alexander, I don't shoot as much as the pros here. I used the 24 a lot in the Philippines on my lastest visit in April, and now I am playing with my Nikkor 85/2 and the Leica 50 'lux ASPH. I'll get around to shooting the 28s a lot more on the M8 when I have the opportunity in early July when I go to Portland.. Ask me around the second week of July, and I will know a lot more. losta Posted June 20, 2007 Share #16 Posted June 20, 2007 Today I received my 30% off 50 Lux. I ordered it in late March. Now all I'm waiting for from Leica is my 75 Lux to be coded and my 55 Silver UV/IR filter.
