CornerFix 0.9.0.5 is now available for download at:

SourceForge.net: CornerFix

You only need to download the executables - the source code is also posted, but you don't have to download that to use the program.

CornerFix corrects for the "cyan corners" problem on Leica M8 digital cameras when used with IR filters.

This is a significant upgrade in terms of functionality:

1. Workflow improvements - batch mode file correction and profile creation; smart file name suggestions on save; CornerFix now separately tracks directories for image and profile files, making it easier to work through files quickly

2. Image adjustments - Chroma and Luminance correction can now be adjusted separately, and anti-aliasing strength is user controllable - an anti-aliasing strength of 0 is the same as 0.9.0.2 and 0.9.0.3, while a setting of 1 is the same as 0.9.0.4

3. Faster operation - optimized code means that devignetting is now 3-4 times faster

4. Enhanced documentation

Note that 0.9.0.5 is still an "8-bit" version, and so the concentric/rainbow circles artifacts can still emerge. A future version will support "16-bit" operation

If you have not previously installed CornerFix, please read the QuickStart guide for installation instructions. If you don't follow all the steps, you WILL get messages like "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

Enjoy

Sandy

Way to go Sandy. Thanks!

I should have mentioned - there is no change to lens profiles - any profile generated since 0.9.0.2 will work just as well as one created on 0.9.0.5. So there is no need to regenerate any profiles you may already have created. All the changes are in the user interface and image correction code, not the profile generation code.

For me it is already very helpful with the CV 15mm. But now

I am looking forward to new Versions of this great Software. ;)

Thanks!

This is really great stuff. I haven't run across the concentric lines yet, so I am not about to wait for any 16 bit version.

Has anyone developed an opinion about whether the sliders to reduce or strengthen the two vignetting corrections are the same as having profiles for each aperture and each color temperature, not the same but just as good, or do different things?

Scott,

That's a very good question - I haven't yet done the maths, but will try to do so........but only in a few days time. If there are folks out there that have built a complete set of profiles for a lens at all apertures, please send them along to me....

I have pretty complete series on the 24/2.8 and the CV15 at 5500K. I'll run off profiles for all, using the new batch features, and send them along. With the DNG files, or without?

scott

Scott,

For the moment, without. Although I'd like to get the images at some point in the future...

I know that someone else is looking into it, but is there any news on the Mac version of CornerFix?

Eric,

Yes, Graham is (as far as I am aware) still going to do that - I think he's just waiting for the code in the Windows version to settle down a bit.

I downloaded 0.9.0.5 last night and had a chance to use it this morning. Here are the notes from an email I sent to Sandy since that had been a few things bothering me but now happily resolved.

>>>

Hi Sandy, I like it! Can't wait for the 16 bit version.

I found the ability to view the thumbnails a great improvement, thanks! To be able to adjust the luminance for the corners is great as you can then 'twiddle' it to suit the photo and the situation and the day.

I think your extended FAQs are most helpful since they cover many of the seemingly naive questions I were posing which I am sure others will encounter. All in all I now find a most usable product.

I have decided from a 'work-flow' point of view (that terrible cliched term) to:

1. Make a note of the lenses used on a photo shoot and record that in one of the user amendable fields in Adobe Bridge so I have permanent record of which lens is used with each image for subsequent processing. Since most of mine are not coded lenses I need it recorded somewhere, I only have one which is a 28mm Summicron 6 bit, otherwise after a couple of weeks I forget which lens is used for which image. I have a couple of LTM8 codable mounts on the way from John M btw

2. Since I store my photos in a folder for each card load of images suitable indexed by set no. / month / year I shall copy the .cpf file to that folder relevant to any lenses used in the folders worth of images to avoid flicking back and forth when processing them. Since a .cpf file is 1KB it won't exactly break my storage capacity ;-)

3. I use Imatch to index my photos by type, location etc so 2 above suits my way of storing things. As ever it is a simple discipline at the outset which is worth it in the long run.

Thanks again, now need to get out using rather than 'test bedding'.

Thanks, yet again, Sandy, and a very big thank you to Graham too.

That is indeed good news.

great ..

and, after fixing the corners....

you want to do something good and valuable with your m8, besides talking techs?

take a look and contribute here with your cameras.

http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/other/26874-edward-burtynskys-photos.html

it is more important and more "leica spirit" and more photographic than talking techs

As Sandy mentioned, I'm still willing to tackle the Mac port once the processing approach has settled as this area is non-trivial to port over.

At this point I anticipate Phase I to be a tool much like the Adobe DNG converter, i.e. without the preview etc. I'll also support the profile creation routines that Sandy finalizes.

I was not able to download "cornerfix". Whatever I tried (Windows Explorer, Windows XP) the download was blocked because of security reasons. Even without firwall it didn't work. Any help or way to get the zip-file otherwise? Thank you for an advice.

If you are home, you can probably adjust your security settings on the firewall to allow this zip file to come thru, and then reset them if you wish.

If you are at work, your company may have a proscription against zip files. If that's the case, your are strictly out of luck.

Thank you Bill,

but I did stop this damn firewall and worked for a while without it, but without success. Probably it is the Internet Explorer with some hidden rules? Sorry for this stupid question, but I would really like to try the cornerfix for example with my Zeiss 21 Biogon. Perhaps someone could send me the zip-file via email? (manfred.schmitz@enoteca-freiburg.de).

My software-tecnician stays far away in something he called "holiday".
