35mm Summicron ASPH Change?

Hello -

I recently had a conversation with someone and they had made a comment about how the silver 35mm Summicron ASPH lens used to be brass and the later silver Summicron ASPH lenses are covered aluminum like the way the black versions have always been (thus making the older brass ones more desirable for whatever reason). I took a long look in the interwebs and haven't ever seen this mentioned, so I'm assuming they are all brass and the gentleman is mistaken.

Can anyone comment?

My apologies if this has already been covered. Thanks in advance for any clarity in this.

Not correct. The current version 11673/11674 (black/silver) are both 287g with lens hood and covers.

This is the 11 aperture blade version.

The previous version was brass under silver chrome.

Cheers,

J :)

Great! So all of the first gen Silver ASPH 35 Summicrons are brass? That's what I was originally asking. Maybe it wasn't clear.

That's correct , new one weights the same, black or silver (there is a bit of confusion in the pdf specs downloadable from Leica site...) ; indeed some dealers (just checked Leicashop) still list both versions... naming "chrome" the older one and "Silver" the new one.
