thighslapper Posted March 8, 2017 Share #21 Posted March 8, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) How much power OIS in 24-90 use when is on? I have huge tremor in my hands and if I shoot under 1/250sec. you can notice it in the photos. I try to have OIS on as much as I can but I am afraid that it will drain the batt. About possible image degradation I don't worry. Nikola Hardly anything in my experience. I have it on all the time ...... and have been on holiday the last 4 days with the camera switched on from 9am to 10pm and just let it go into sleep mode. Never used a whole battery any day and averaged 300 photos daily.

Nikola I don't know exactly how much power it draws, but since it is normally in sleep mode it shouldn't be a big deal. If you want something to turn off to save a little power, you could turn off the GPS function on the SL. In my experience that makes enough of a difference to notice in a day of shooting. In any event, the battery life on the SL is quite good for a mirrorless camera, and the OIS in the 24-90 has little impact on that. - Jared
LEGEND Posted March 8, 2017 Share #23 Posted March 8, 2017 Thank you for the input on OIS batt. consumption. This is good to know as I always shoot handhold. From now it will be always on. I don't chimp or use GPS or WiFi. One time when I was shooting in theater I got almost 680 shots before the batt. was down. I have 2 extra batt. with me all the time. Even if I don't need them it is good to have. Nikola
Joshua Lowe Posted March 8, 2017 Share #24 Posted March 8, 2017 I haven't noticed a difference in battery drain with OIS on or off. GPS is the biggest drain.
phovsho Posted March 9, 2017 Share #25 Posted March 9, 2017 I've turned it off on occasion when I hear (feel?) it working with the camera on standby. A perceptible whirring sound I can hear when the conditions are right.
