Advertisement Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 Hi LocalHero1953, Take a look here M240 Tripod Head suggestions. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pharyngula Posted March 8, 2017 Share #22 Posted March 8, 2017 Yes I mentioned the GP-SS ballhead above, and it was a delight to use. However, for me it's functional advantages over the GH1382TQD didn't offset the portability advantage of the latter. I wanted to keep both but really couldn't justify it Sorry, I should have read your post more carefully. Interesting because my Traveler folds up pretty nicely around my GP-SS. I too have a "knob" clamp and not the QR version. I suppose it could be the fact that we have different model Travelers. The legs don't close completely flat but if anything, I think at least as tight as shown in Paul's photo with the Marlins Q3T and 0545. I'll have to dig it out when I get home tonight and confirm. sblutter Posted March 8, 2017 Share #23 Posted March 8, 2017 +1 for a sturdy ball head. The camera isn't very heavy
LocalHero1953 Posted March 8, 2017 Share #24 Posted March 8, 2017 Here is the same Gitzo 0545 legs with the Acratech GV2 head. I note others have talked about the GP-SS head, which may has a smaller base, though it is not the base that limits how the legs close. These legs are not close enough together for my liking. pharyngula Posted March 9, 2017 Share #25 Posted March 9, 2017 Hmmm... not sure why the big difference here but this is my GP-SS with knob clamp, nicely nestled between the folded-up legs of a GT1541 Traveler. bocaburger Posted March 11, 2017 Share #26 Posted March 11, 2017 I have a Gitzo GT0540. On it I use either a Kaiser Small ballhead with Arca clamp, or else one of the Leitz ballheads (Medium or Tall) with alternative 1/4"-3/8" attachments on either end. The latter Leitz heads are all long discontinued. I believe the Kaiser and the Gitzo are likewise discontinued..

roverover Posted April 18, 2017 Share #28 Posted April 18, 2017 I was searching for a New Tripod Head last year for my M240 too. After shopping around a bit, I settled on the MagicBall 50 from Novoflex. After receiving the Head, I liked the quality so much that i ended up putting together an entire new Novoflex Tripod setup using 4 or 5 different parts they offer. For those who use Quick-Release plates, Novoflex offers a variety of those as well. I have been using this for several months and so far am quite pleased. The Flexibility and Build Quality is superb in my opinion. Welcome, dear visitor!
