21mm Summilux lens. Series VIII or Screw on Filters?

Series VII filters fit the standard hood. An adapter, the somewhat rare Leica 14479, allows the use of threaded 72mm filters.

For your friend: my best guess is the lens has a male 54mm thread for the hood to attach.  This would be the proper size for a Series 7 retaining ring.  I tried the only Series 7 ring I have and it threaded well until it bound up after a full turn.  This will work, barely, it is not ideal and an over zealous turn could change the threads of the lens to be less than ideal for the hood or adapter.
