Novoflex Canon EF Lens to Leica SL Adapter: list of compatible/tested lenses

Recommended Posts

I used the SIGMA 85/1.4 ART (for Canon) once more on last saturdays wedding and it is not usable at all. I don't know what has changed but it's freezing every few images.

The results when it's working are great - the IQ is very fine. But the combination of SL-Novoflex-Sigma ART is absolutely not working at all.

In the past it was freezing from time to time but nowadays that happens on a regular basis. I can't recommend this lens anymore.

Does anyone know if the Canon TS-E (24 in particular) works with this adapter? Last I heard was you had to set the aperture on a Canon body, then put it on the SL...

Thanks in advance.

All the TSE lenses work perfectly on the SL. I have the 17,24 and 45 and use them most days.

I have that with my 12-24. It was great but mostly it doesn't work at all. Today I tried a new adaptor and it was the same. Then my lens started working perfectly again. I have no idea...... I'm going to get the dock and see if there's something I can do in the lens firmware.

Today I also tried the 85 Art on the SL. The Nikon version won't mount on the adaptor. It has some sort of screw stopping it going on the SL/E Nikon adaptor. The Canon version worked great. I tried about 100 shots and it didn't fail once.

apart from the ability to update the lens firmware ...... which isn't really the problem ..... the dock is singularly useless with adapted lenses. I tried to resolve my top display readout issue where it said infinity was 16.2m ..... but changing the focussing parameters in the firmware did nothing. None of other alterable parameters do anything of any help for lenses used on the SL.

the inconsistencies displayed with the Canon adapter seem to be much less on the Nikon version ...... behaviour (which is by no means perfect) is consistent and repeatable..... any misses with AF are corrected with a second attempt and lock-ups very rare and corrected either by toggling the AF/MF lens switch or switching the camera on and off.

with both the Canon and Nikon versions I have found the lens fit extremely tight ...... almost to the point where I feared damaging something.

I tried the Nikon version of the 12-24 and it physically won't fit on the Novoflex adaptor. So I'm stuck with the Canon version. Same with the 85mm.

Strange - no problem on my side (I have had two copies of the Nikon 12-24 mm lens, both working fine with the manual Novoflex adapter). Edited by helged

The AF adaptor is different. It's for E mount lenses only and the Sigma Art lenses have a small grub screw that stop them going on the "E" mount Novoflex. I didn't think the store would be super keen on me removing parts of a store stock lens. Even if I am a good customer. :)

Pardon - I mixed up your Sigma Art 12-24 with Nikkor 12-24...

I would like to know whether somebody has tried the Sigma 150-600 sports lens as well with AF adapter novoflex on the SL. Does it work, how is its AF speed and is it accurate

I am as weel interested by the answer to this question. I tried a Canon 100-400 L v.2, and although AF is accurate, it is very very very slow and hunting. Useless in AF mode, to be fair...

Can anyone suggest the best third party AF lens as an alternative to the pricey Leica 50mm SL Summilux but that still has a bit of the 3D separation that the SL lens has?  I have the Novoflex EOS-SL adapter and was thinking about the Canon 35mm f/1.4L II, the Sigma 35mm or 50mm f/1.4 Art lenses, or the Canon 50mm f/1.2L.  The AF does not have to be super speedy but it has to work with the Novoflex.  I am leaning towards the Canon 35mm L just because I slightly prefer the 35mm FOV, but am open to either.  TIA!

I have the Canon 1.4/35mm L II, and it works perfectly on the SL. Autofocus is fast, and there are no issues with camera freeze or anything like that. The lens is extraordinarily good optically, perhaps the best performing 35mm lens available. The downside is the size of course, but these days it seems that several producers want to make the best performing lens possible, and size will be secondary to that objective. Possibly the Sigma very nearly has the same capabilities, but unless something has happened recently, I believe the autofocus does not work.

Read through the thread and conclusion is that the Canon 85mm F1.2 is slow on this adapter. But how does it compare to use on a regular canon?  Most reviews I've read said it's already slow af to begin with on any camera?

Would the af be so bad on the SL that it would be unusable with studio portraits?

Thank you,

Chris
