Jaap, to say that it is 'Totally impossible' is just wrong. A quick internet search re dog leather in the UK shows how easy it is for dog and cat leather to be imported from China.

And the answer is clear:

It can only be "regular" leather. unless we assume:

 

1. That Leica is an unethical company

2. The certification label is fake.

 

Both assumptions are too absurd to contemplate.

That may be in the UK, but I know quite a few customs officials in the Rotterdam harbour, which is the main entry port for Chinese goods to the continent, Illegal animal (parts) trade is on the top of their priority list, right up there with arms and drugs.

Also, Leica does have the corporate ethos of checking their supply chain.
