Zoo Trip

Not exactly wild but mainly animals so this seemed the best place to put these.

First time I had been to the zoo in years. The facilities and enclosures are very mixed; some are fine, some are dire.

This is the first building you encounter when you walk in- 'Floral Hall' now derelict, was a really popular dance/concert hall from 1930's-60's.

All of these were taken with the x2 (added elpro 2 for the flower).
I made the mistake of bringing my dslr + 300mm prime. Hardly took a shot with it but spent the rest of the hike that is the zoo (it's on the side of a huge hill) carrying it and balancing it with the other camera + handbag. Really made it a chore!

A very nice set, and a reminder why I generally do not like zoos.  where was this?

Thanks Stuart, it's Belfast. It's not a good example and to be honest I wonder how long it will continue to be open. It is council owned and runs at a substantial loss, you can tell. Walking around I heard no less than three different people remark on how cruel/unpleasant they thought it was.

It's impossible really to comment on the basis of a few photos. Run down as the zoo seems the animals themselves appear to be in good condition, look well fed and not in any distress.

As far as can be seen from the photos, their living areas look clean and tidy. There is probably a dedicated group of humans who would give anything to upgrade conditions for the animals

in their care, but must work within severe financial restrictions.
