ho_co Posted June 18, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 18, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) On Fr 5/25/07 I sent Tri-Elmar 28-35-50 to New Jersey for installation of 6-bit coding. On Fr 6/8 left message on Robert Fisk's phone mail asking if lens had arrived; Fisk returned the call on Mo 6/11, at which time I approved repair and gave credit card info. Lens arrived Mo 6/18, converted and working beautifully. Total 24 days away. BTW: Robert said in the phone call that 'parts had just arrived from Germany and they're doing the Tri-Elmars right now.' Bravo, Robert! Bravo, Allendale! Bravo, Solms! --HC
Advertisement Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Hi ho_co, Take a look here Time for applause--Kudos to Leica NJ. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Shootist Posted June 18, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 18, 2007 Wish I could say the same. Sent 2 90mm TE f/2.8 in on 4/25?? called 5/21-22 to check it is now 6/18 and not a word. I have also sent in a NEW 75 cron that I felt the detent on the aperture ring was a little light. Got a note saying that it would have to go back to Solms for that adjustment. Called last Monday and actually spoke to Robert Fisk and told him DON'T send the lens back to Solms, SEND IT BACK TO ME. It is now 1 week later and no lens. This is really funny because I got my replacement M8 last Monday and NJ sent me a complete kit. I called both RF and CE about it asking if this was a mistake and if it was how do I send the extra parts/pieces back. CE was so surprised that I did that, I guess most would of kept the other parts, that he sent me a free gift. I got the gift on Wednesday shipped UPS. Still no lens. carstenw Posted June 18, 2007 Share #3 Posted June 18, 2007 Howard, I am happy that your TE is back, but personally I don't think 24 days is something to applaud, but simply acceptable. I would hope that at some point the turn-around time will be 1-2 weeks.
ho_co Posted June 18, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted June 18, 2007 Carsten-- Reasonable request, but I think this fits in that ballpark. The work was done and the lens returned to me one week after Leica got my approval. Though I didn't say so above, I had sent the lens via Parcel Post, the least expeditious shipping method offered by the US Postal Service. I did that because I was hearing of work and parts delays of 6 to 8 weeks or more, so why rush the shipment? The main point of my post was intended to be that parts had just arrived and that many lenses can now be done that couldn't have been just a week before. I had expected a slow process and was pleased how quickly things went. --HC
charlesphoto99 Posted June 18, 2007 Share #5 Posted June 18, 2007 Well, after six plus weeks waiting for my 28 Summicron to be coded (and infinity focus adjusted) I received the lens last week. Well guess what - Leica NJ put a 24mm mount on my 28! I'm finding the level of service provided by Leica exasperating. When I received my M8 replacement it was without battery - and I'd sent them back the original! It took two weeks to get a battery - fortunately I had a spare. Anyway, enough moaning here, I think it's time I wrote a letter to the boss. I just finished a ten page photo essay with the M8 that would have been a lot easier with the 28 in hand but it was sitting on Leica shelf and now it's back to that shelf (supposedly expedited but we'll see). Leica really need to hire more people or at least open up lens codes!
