Â I decided to create a 3D-printed version of the famous OUFRO inspired by ECHO63:s mockup made from a front and rear lid. Since I had both mounts already drawn up in 3D, it was a quite simple task to create the OUFRO. . It's also published on Thingiverse. Enjoy! (has been requested on the SL pages several times). Sure it's technically possible, my problem is that I only own an S and a M, I'll talk to my dealer, maybe I can borrow a cap from them . It would be in a grey zone copyright wise though (the M-mount is completely free since many years, but not so sure with the SL...). I've made both front cap and back lid for M. Â Â The material is called Zortrax Ultrat (it's a proprietary from my printer maker Zortrax), but basically it's a modified ABS-plastic that is very sturdy. Actually all caps and lid from all camera manufacturers are from ABS-plastic (although the mix might vary to give it different properties). My old printer used PLA instead (it's a plastic made from Corn) and although it had very good impact strength it was a quite brittle material so small chips would easy come of from it when used in mechanical parts. With Ultrat all those problems are gone. For a smoth surface I treat the plastic with acetone vapor. Â //Joakim Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Â Some plastics, notably polycarbonate, loses all mechanical properties after contact with acetone. Polycarbonate is under development for 3D printing and should give even better results than ABS. Blends of PC and ABS are very popular too and might see the market for 3D printing soon as well. The current Leica lens rear cap is made from PC/ABS.
