In Israel the joke is "Haifa works, Jerusalem prays, and Tel Aviv plays"

 

I think Adam trys to capture this (although he neglects Haifa  :( )

That's quite interesting. I knew Tel Aviv was a 'modern' city but I wrongly assumed there was an historic town at its core.

 

It was built on  "sand dunes" in 1909

 

However its growth quickly absorbed the Historic City of Jaffa, next door, and today the municipality covers both "Tel Aviv-Yafo"

I only neglect Haifa b/c it is out of my way and you don't invite me there! :)
