Alternative metering when using OVF

As you know, centre weighted metering is used when using the OVF. It is related to a meter different from sensor metering because the sensor is not exposed by any light AFAIK.

I sometimes switch to LV mode and still use the OVF to use an alternative metering mode that is done by the calculations of the exposures on sensor.

Is there any possibility to let the light exposes the sensor while using the rangefinder in order to use alternative metering modes ? The LCD is activated in LV mode of course and energy consumption is high.

Wasn't there a way to use spot and evaluative metering with the rangefinder on the m typ 240? I believe you could do it but it would have to open up the shutter to take a light meter reading first. This is of course without actually activating live view.

Page 180 of the manual found here:

1. In the main menu (see p. 154/246) select Light Metering Mode (page 1, CAMERA section), and 2. In the sub-menu select – Classic shutter metering, for the conventional metering method described above, or – Advanced sensor metering if you want to be able to choose between the three metering methods described below.

I'll take a look at the M10's manual but I'm sure it would be similar.

One thing to note:

• For the metering methods based on the image sensor, the shutter must be open and it is then closed and re-cocked when the function is cancelled. Of course, this is audible and may result in a slight delay in the shutter release.
