I don’t think it’s practical to flag photos as “feedback requested” vs. “just look and keep your comments to yourself” (however expressed). IMO if you post photos here you are asking for comments. If you only want admiration, Flickr is better where (I think) you can limit comment responses and just get favs.

I still think they should ask, just a politeness thing.

I really feel that once you post a photo people you should be open to people commenting, including critical comments — and there is, in my view, nothing wrong with commenters illustrating their comments with crops or tonal changes. Nothing serious here, but if you haven't seen Michael Johnston's spoof on photo forum comments, you'll enjoy reading Part I and Part II.

I shoot professionally, I don't use flickr. I also don't really want or care for people to crop or alter what I present here as finished work.

When I post here, I am sharing work, not asking for comments. Comments are certainly welcome, but I am not interested in having my work altered in any way to better illustrate someone's opinion of it.

I think it sets a disrespectful precedent.

Interesting, you will have to forgive me but this has never been a hobby for me so I will just have to chalk it up to not understanding the dynamic of how enthusiasts share work and what to expect from that.

I guess posting photos here is not for me, I appreciate finding this out sooner than later.

I wouldn't have thought that my colorful image in post #1382 would be a candidate for conversion to B&W, but the bright roof-line made me think about a high-contrast treatment like the one below, which I like.

I sold my MM before buying the M10 and haven't missed it at all because the M10's high dynamic range provides flexibility for a wide range of B&W conversions. One of the reasons some photographers like the Leica Monochrome cameras because they force one to think and commit to B&W. My own preference is to have a choice — and also to have facility of using digital color filters. Moriyama Daido, who these days apparently shoots a small sensor P&S camera says that one of the reason he likes digital cameras is that they give him a choice between processing in color or B&W.

mdemeyer - You're right, but what really strikes me, looking at the color image, is how difficult it is to tease out the M10 the umami that M9 images often have. I think that M10 images can be processed essentially get the look that M9 images have, but I find it extremely difficult to produce the magic that M9 images so often produce so easily.

The first part of this statement is certainly right, as stated by our forum rules: If a member publishes pictures in a forum, he puts them up for discussion and grants the right of use within the forum for an unlimited amount of time.

However, this does not imply that you are free to change or redistribute any of the images posted here without explicit and prior consent. Recipocity is within his right to object to his images being altered.

You are right, and I apologize for not having spotted this sooner. I suggest using the report button underneath each post to ask a moderator to remove unauthorized copies of your work, should this ever occur again here.

I have removed the post in question with the altered picture.

Thanks for the considered response. I was just a bit taken aback is all, if others here are ok with it and it falls within the rules set forth, have at it I figure.

I am sure if I share more work, it will be fine and on the off chance someone takes liberty with an image, I can first ask them politely to not engage in that and I bet that will more than suffice.

Interesting topic though, it just never dawned on me to ever do that if in a web forum vs in person setting.

Thanks for this clarification. Does the forum software, therefore, prevent downloading of images? Seems like it should or there should be some way to manage this permission as does Flickr.

No, it does not. Viewing an image  implies moving it to your computer.

Every year in October the Association of Christian Motorcyclists in Germany organizes a memorial tour to pay their respects to those who lost their lives riding their motorcylces that year and to show solidarity with those who lost a loved one in an accident. The event which culminates with a memorial service in the Ev. Katharinenkirche (Katharinen Church) in Frankfurt is also intended to raise awareness about road safety and responsible driving and bike riding. Some snaps from arriving in front of the church.
