Leica M10, Leica 21mm Summilux

ISO 3200, 10 separate 8s exposures, f/1.4

Images aligned in PixInsight, Stacked in Photoshop, Exposure Comp in Lightroom

I couldn't figure out a way to do 15s exposures which would have been better. Anyone know how? Short of a cable release and Bulb? Autoexposure was choosing 32s exposures, and that was letting stars trail more than I wanted.

Jared, this has to be one of the most beautiful photos I've ever seen. Really. Every day I'm blown away at the talent on display in these image threads but, in my humble opinion, this tops them all.

Well done!

Thanks so much!  I was quite pleased with it.  Took a fair amount of planning, but it's always nice when that planning pays off and you get the results you had pictured in your mind.  The only thing at all disappointing was that I couldn't keep Saturn in the frame at the same time without shifting the diagonal band of the Milky Way farther to the left, and therefore overlapping the lighthouse more than I wanted to.

I wrote somewhere that, as you start processing a color image, the M10 often needs to be roughed up if you want the transparency-film look of the M9 look. In this connection, I thought it worthwhile to post the color version of a B&W image in post #951. In the image below, I applied some "Structure" using Viveza 2, which works quite differently from applying additional "Clarity" in Lightroom. Both images work for me but in this case, despite the Turks & Caicos colors that I like, the B&W image feels more expressive. Generally, I find that the M10 is excellent for both color and B&W in very bright light, as long as you underexpose a bit to protect the highlights, in this case by about ⅔-rds of a stop.
