Why is it no one seems to post EXIF info on this forum with all the beautiful stunning pictures.

Because it's actually useless to other photographers, and because most people here would rather appreciate the photograph than ogle the technical data.

 

In my experience on this forum, when there is a discussion that is centered on the specifics of the technology's behavior, the EXIF data is shared because then it has an illustrative purpose.

Yes, but. Many times someone posts a picture or two and asks for help because the pictures do not agree with his expectations. EXIF data is missing in most of those cases, too, when that data might be crucial for any advice.

That is exactly when the EXIF data should be included; not providing it when you're trying to analyze the behavior of the machine is leaving out essential information. But this is not a fault of the forum software or the image processing or whatever ... It's simple, human error. 

 

I intentionally strip EXIF data from my posted images. I can intentionally leave it in any time I need it to be there for illustrative purposes. The same should be true of everyone else: I'm not doing anything special.

It would be nice sometimes for newbies to see how the experts are setting up their shots on some of the amazing pictures.

EXIF data doesn't tell you any more then ISO, Aperture, and Exposure time does. Why someone might choose a particular group of settings is much more important and can be best obtained by asking the photographer.

There are a few folk (yes, you know who you are ....  ) who habitually ask for camera setting info ...... and I am happy to supply it, but to be honest it's the least important thing about the whole picture taking exercise to me. As far as I can see ISO is the only critical one ...... as has a great influence on final image quality. All the other parameters really just choose themselves dependent on circumstances, and unlike film days and cameras with no integral metering when a lot of judgement was required, today the camera does the lot for you. As I have handheld shots from the SL+ 90-280 at 280mm at 1/25sec with OIS on that are perfect, even knowing the shutter speed seems a bit irrelevant !

 

I now have LR set to strip out the EXIF info on export for forum size images, mainly as it includes camera/lens serial numbers etc.......  as I had a slight spot of bother last year after posting SL images with a camera my dealer sent me ..... accidentally .... it was in fact meant to be his demo copy  which appeared several weeks before the official release date. Leica HQ would have had his balls for 'selling' one of their demo cameras and lenses, so the offending images were recalled and re-posted later without any identifying info.
