stuny Posted December 23, 2016 Share #1 Posted December 23, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Japan Rail may be the best train service in the world. They measure on-time service in seconds, and consider 10 seconds off to be unacceptable. In the Kanazawa station we saw a representative of JR giving directions. With a very low birth rate Japan may have to lead the world in automation to make up for their declining population. Welcome, dear visitor! Bateleur Posted December 24, 2016 Share #2 Posted December 24, 2016 Interesting series, (I love the smiles on the third of the viewers) Other railways (especially some I wont mention) could take a leaf from the JNR example! Thanks Charles
stuny Posted December 24, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted December 24, 2016 Mark & Tom - Thank you. Charles - Thank you. In spite of their quality of service and the fabulous Shinkansen bullet trains, the Japanese feel they are lagging a rather limited mag-lev system in China. When Shinkansen pass they are quieter at full speed than US trains at 100KPH, probably due to the close tolerances of the JR rail junctions.
StS Posted December 29, 2016 Share #4 Posted December 29, 2016 Thank you for the documentation, I fully agree, Japan is train-travel heaven. The only Maglev in China I'm aware of, is connecting Shanghai airport and the city. It is 1990s technology and actually the sole system, which Transrapid managed to sell so far...
