Advertisement Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Hi jacksparrow, Take a look here I love my MP. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
RITskellar Posted April 9, 2010 Share #1542 Posted April 9, 2010 I am sorry for the silly joke before I always have a half-case on mine, so I can't comment on the feel for each camera Yes, silver and black chrome bodies are much colder to the touch (in cold weather) than black paint bodies. I experienced this when having an MP version of each. I find the black paint bodies easier to grip (tackier) and generally more comfortable.
SteveYork Posted April 10, 2010 Share #1543 Posted April 10, 2010 This sounds a little silly, but what I like about black paint bodies is that you don't care if they get banged up. They look a little better if they are a little battered. I generally choose a camera based on price, and I've ended up w/ three silver and one BP. But I tend to take the BP everywhere, because I don't care if it gets beat up. I just got a great deal on a new M7 (w/ USA warranty) for less then the price of a used one. It's silver and I'll see if it becomes my go-to camera. I've been slimming down my film stuff, but now I'm adding to it again. I want to get a Voigtlander rangefinder as a back up for traveling; a zeiss ikon for that great viewfinder and a nikon s3 because it looks so cool. Of course, if I carry through with my "wants" is a separate question. But they would all be BP. Does anyone know how the BP ZI or VC wear?
Dogberryjr Posted April 13, 2010 Share #1544 Posted April 13, 2010 And I love it even more with nice, new leather:
peterv Posted April 26, 2010 Share #1545 Posted April 26, 2010 Hi all, I hope I won't be banned/flamed for showing a picture of my MP together in one bag with a vulgar DSLR from another brand This thread inspired me to buy an MP just months after I got my M8 and I've always wanted to post a really, really artistic shot, but somehow it just never happened. The other day I was out shooting for a project I'm working on and took this snapshot. Welcome, dear visitor! ola.fiske Posted April 28, 2010 Share #1546 Posted April 28, 2010 (edited) Yes I love my new MP; except from one concern. There is a little slackness ("slark" we say in norwegian, I can not find the right word) in the bajonetcoupling betwen the camera and the lens. It is very smal, but it is there! It comes with all three lenses (see list below) that I assemble with the new MP, but it do not happen with my old M6 classic. I just wonder if others have this "problem" , and if I shold retun it to dealer for check. Ola Edited April 28, 2010 by ola.fiske
seemeng Posted April 30, 2010 Share #1547 Posted April 30, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I love my MO much more now especially after taking delivery of my long ordered M9 as the MP's shutter is so much quieter and and feel is more agile. My thumb kept moving trying to crank the non-existant film advance winder yesterday.
peter_n Posted April 30, 2010 Share #1548 Posted April 30, 2010 I just wonder if others have this "problem" , and if I shold retun it to dealer for check.Ola all of my lenses snap in to both my MP bodies, no slackness at all. I think you should bring the body back to your dealer with a couple of your lenses and demonstrate the problem.
ola.fiske Posted April 30, 2010 Share #1549 Posted April 30, 2010 Now I see it. It is the pin on the release button which make the difference. It is a little more "slim" than the pin on the M6 and therefore gives a very smal degree of play in the lensmount "cut out". So now my worries are gone. Otherwise my MP is working perfect. It is a lovely tool. Thanks for help. Ola

chrism Posted May 16, 2010 Share #1555 Posted May 16, 2010 Since turntables were mentioned a long time ago in this thread, here's my MP on an SME turntable with some Quad tubes in the background: Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! It's an odd thing, but I never could see the need for an auto exposure capability until I had one and it spoiled me a bit. I'm quite happy to do manual exposure though, and even on auto I will meter the ground, or whatever else looks right, and lock it if the subject is backlit. I'm still trying to get used to the irritatingly hard-to-turn shutter control on the MP. I'm not interested in setting a shutter speed and changing the aperture to set the exposure - I rarely photograph fast-moving objects and I'm far more interested in controlling DOF with aperture. So I want to set the aperture and twiddle the shutter dial to get the exposure right. Easy to do with two fingers on the shutter dial, then a quick glance at the top of the camera to check I'm not trying to hand hold a 90mm lens at 1/8th second, but whilst easy in the fine-motor department, it is very slow. I read about others who turn the shutter dial with their right index fingertip, and trip the shutter with a prominent finger joint, but I can't see this as an ideal way to carefully release a shutter (maybe with a soft release button). Unless I have an 'Aha!' experience soon, there might be a second M7 in my future to replace this MP. At least I could turn both shutter speed dials the same way then! antistatic Posted May 17, 2010 Share #1558 Posted May 17, 2010 2905s! Now I am officially envious They also do a good job with my VPI TT and lowly Monitor Audio Rx6s. There is a speaker upgrade on the horizon but I don't think I have the room for electrostatics and the Boy Toy budget will only extend so far. Leica cameras, Hi Fi, or feeding the children? Somethings gotta give
chrism Posted May 21, 2010 Share #1559 Posted May 21, 2010 Well after a week with the MP I am getting the hang of twiddling the shutter dial with my finger and generally managing OK if the exposure ends up as 1/15 or 1/8. Everything about the MP feels smoother and better engineered than the M7, so I have decided to sell the M7s and get another MP. Black paint this time, of course. A Nikon 9000ED turned up today, so I'll be spending the weekend scanning old negs to see how they compare with my scans on lesser machines (especially medium format!) matt335 Posted May 21, 2010 Share #1560 Posted May 21, 2010 Hi, I thought this thread needed a bump - it has nearly slipped off page One! I've been looking for years for a .58 MP and suddenly two appear in London at once. One is enough for now and joins my little M family very happily. I'm off to Bruges tomorrow for a couple of days to give it a whirl. Photos courtesy of my trusty D2. The family is ready to travel; but I think this time the M8 gets to stay home. A film only trip! Tim Lovely kits there Tim. Is that an 21mm F2.8 there in the background? I am interested in this lens. What do you think about this lens?
