peter_n Posted December 18, 2007 Share #361 Posted December 18, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I saw it on the weekend, boxed and unopened. I asked the dealer to hold it for me, and I will pick up and make final payment in March.Murray that's excellent! I had wrongly inferred that the dealer was ordering from Germany. I guess there are some still on dealer's shelves here and there as JBA points out. I just saw these on eBay a first MP3 down from US8K to US7K and a second MP3 at US$7.4K. Both of these sellers are reputable dealers in New York City.

abrewer Posted December 19, 2007 Author Share #364 Posted December 19, 2007 It is truly amazing to me that this thread, begun over thirteen months ago, continues to attract posts. I guess it is testament to how passionate Leica MP owners are about their film cameras. Carry on gentlemen! Thanks. Allan

ddp Posted January 10, 2008 Share #370 Posted January 10, 2008 imiges - congratulations. The MP3 is one that Leica really nailed IMHO. I feel quite lucky to have been able to snag one. Single bodies are no longer easy to come by - and as other posters have noted in this thread, there are still some kits floating around here and there. After having used mine for some time now, other M bodies just dont feel the same (except my SS M3)
abrewer Posted January 10, 2008 Author Share #371 Posted January 10, 2008 The tactile pleasures of the MP are unique in my experience: everything from the sublime way it fits the hand to the deliberate, heavy crank of the rewind Great, great camera Thanks Allan
peter_n Posted January 11, 2008 Share #372 Posted January 11, 2008 My two. The MP is a 0.85x body. Welcome, dear visitor! visiondr Posted January 11, 2008 Share #373 Posted January 11, 2008 Very nice. What do you think of the film counter on the MP3? Is it a pain to have to reset it?
peter_n Posted January 11, 2008 Share #374 Posted January 11, 2008 It isn't a problem. I bulk load so I have all sorts of lengths but if you load a regular 36exp into the cam you don't need to touch the dial because it's in the right place when you finish the roll. visiondr Posted January 11, 2008 Share #375 Posted January 11, 2008 That settles it. The MP3 rocks!
chilihead Posted January 11, 2008 Share #376 Posted January 11, 2008 Time to start a, "I love my MP3" post. Its true, once a person touches an MP3, you are finished, toast- kaput! Do not, under any circumstances, allow an MP3 camera to touch your fingertips!
phovsho Posted January 11, 2008 Share #377 Posted January 11, 2008 Peter You have the dream set up. .85x mag for MP + an MP3, all in black. Beautiful. Cheers Murray
phovsho Posted January 11, 2008 Share #378 Posted January 11, 2008 Also peter, is the serial number 0888? Sounds lucky (and more valuable as a result). M
peter_n Posted January 11, 2008 Share #379 Posted January 11, 2008 Actually Murray they just happened to be available. I use two M7s; both are silver chrome backed up by a silver chrome M6TTL. (I think they are in the I love my M7 thread.) They were also bought on the basis of price/availability, so it was just random that everything was chrome. The same with these two guys, they just popped up when I was looking and the price was right in both cases. However I must say that I'm becoming very partial to black paint Leicas... With respect to the edition nr, I'm not at home but I think it is 0688. I changed the shutter speed dial on one of my M7s to a black color to help distinguish between the two cameras in my bag. I'm thinking about doing the same here - changing the MP dial to silver chrome. It looks a bit ugly at first but you get used to it. Also on the MP the shutter & guard are chrome and so is the exposure indicator dial so maybe it won't look so out of place.
fursan Posted January 11, 2008 Share #380 Posted January 11, 2008 a mp should be felt, caressed, loved, handled gently and smoothly, its presence should be obstrusive. the way you handle a mp is the way it reciprocates...subdued elegance. almost like a woman. see the world through her eyes as she sees you. full frontal images of an mp are obscene to me. gentle feeling can reveal all is secrets. regards
