sumolux Posted December 23, 2015 Share #3281 Posted December 23, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) This configuration is exactly what I wanted too, (BP, engraving etc.) and I ended up finding an MP 6 which in the end was much cheaper than going the a la carte path. For about $ 900 less, it had the additional plus point (for me anyway) of the older vulcanite, a different ISO control and a little bit of Leica history. There are a number of them NIB out Hong Kong way still to be found..... In any case congrats on a lovely camera (that I could not quite afford!) I agree about the MP6 being a very handsome camera and a good alternative, but it comes with a 0.72 viewfinder (the a la carte one I just received is 0.58-4, which was the main reason of getting this camera). I also agree with an earlier post regarding getting a regular, used MP and "a la carte" it by sending it in and asking for specific changes. This is exactly what I did with my 2003 silver MP. I wish they would include a viewfinder magnification change as something one can do this way.

smkoush Posted January 10, 2016 Share #3291 Posted January 10, 2016 Leica will change the frame line set for any MP. It was around £260 when I enquired Rgds That's true, and I've done it on my other 0.72 MP, but Leica will not change the rangefinder magnification (which is what I was referring to regarding the MP6).
philipus Posted January 11, 2016 Share #3292 Posted January 11, 2016 It might be different with the MP (though I doubt it), but when I asked CS about switching the 0,72x for a 0,85x in my TTL they said this was possible at a cost of (in 2012) £800 including VAT. That sounds about right. I asked for a magnification change from 0.85 to 0.58 and was quoted something along those lines back in 2013. Also, I've previously had a 0.72 finder masked so only 35-50-90 framelines show up. I believe the cost was €270-ish in the year 2010.

Interesting, when I inquired Leica USA in early 2015 about such a change I was told it is not possible!
Guest Posted January 11, 2016 Share #3295 Posted January 11, 2016 (edited) Just contact the Leica Customer Care/Service center directly in Wetzlar. They speak and write perfect English and they know firsthand what is and what is not possible to modify on your camera. Though to give you a propper answer they prefer you to write them an e-mail, so they can check with their technicians. That being said, it may well be possible that the Leica executives have decided not to offer magnification changes or masking any longer. Recently Leica have been told from higher up, that they are not allowed to offer the Leica logo in a black finish. If they receive a camera for service/repair that has a black dot Leica logo, they will change this to a red dot logo without telling the customer... I'd be furious if that happened to me! Anyway, contact details from their website: LEICA SERVICE & SUPPORT Ihr Leica Produkt benötigt eine Wartung, oder Reparatur? Bitte wenden Sie sich an unseren Leica Reparaturservice. Hier wird Ihr Leica Produkt fachmännisch gewartet, oder mit Original Leica Ersatzteilen repariert.
