A miller Posted June 25, 2015 Share #3204 Posted June 25, 2015 A second viewing of my MP, now with a Sonnar : Harold - do you still have your M7? I like your GAS for film bodies
colonel Posted June 25, 2015 Share #3205 Posted June 25, 2015 (edited) Harold - do you still have your M7? I like your GAS for film bodies No, it's a long story I sent it off to Leica to have new RF coating, optical DX, new leather, etc. but it was not even started on for months, apparently due to overwork of technicians since Leica announced M9 sensor issue. So Leica gave me a full refund for it, as I bought it from the Leica second hand shop in London. I was looking for another M7 - a more recent one with all the updates.and I just came across this nearly new MP in perfect condition and still in guarantee. I seriously think the first owner didn't put a single film through it. So I couldn't resist it. Not terribly logical really .... After the M7 and a bit of MP I am finally getting the hang of prejudging the exposure, so I am much happier. I only normally need a slight tweak after looking at the light meter. If I hadn't got the hang of the light I would have been still happier with the M7. The M7 remains faster to use in emergency situations due to the A mode but I like the MP a lot. What really surprised me was how much better, smoother and enjoyable it is then the M6. I think it's due to the material upgrades and tweaks in the design since the M6. The metering certainly seems better. I didn't enjoy using an M6 a few years ago but somehow I really enjoy using the MP. Logic doesn't really play a role in these types of decisions. For good reason - it is what makes you happy. The MP is a great camera and one that should last generations.

vanGeist Posted June 27, 2015 Share #3208 Posted June 27, 2015 My all-time favourite travel camera! Leica MP with 50mm Elmar-M f2.8. That wood grip looks very nice. Can you tell the brand/manufacturer?
honcho Posted June 27, 2015 Share #3209 Posted June 27, 2015 (edited) That wood grip looks very nice. Can you tell the brand/manufacturer? Made by Xi Jinping before he became famous. (Found it on Ebay when I bought my MP in 2006. Never without it, possibly Chinese sweatshop origin, manufacturer unknown) Edited June 27, 2015 by honcho

honcho Posted June 28, 2015 Share #3211 Posted June 28, 2015 It looks the same. I prefer the camera with a grip and this wood grip is far better looking and ergonomically better than the nasty plastic Leica grip.

Harold I agree That's why I have both M7 and MP... second reason , as I am a "purist" one have a color film and the second a b&w film ! Congratulations for your MP, it's really a good camera Best Henry PS don't forget to post in "Other" and film "I like film" thread Thanks Harold Edited June 28, 2015 by Doc Henry

It's not from a chinese sweatshop then, but a handcrafted one from Hong Kong for ~220 €. If you don't need it someday, sell it to me.
