creidtaylor Posted December 6, 2016 Share #1 Posted December 6, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) This horizontal line is appearing in the same place on several images, predominantly when there is a light background. I opened this image in both Lightroom and Irident Developer and the line is still there. I noticed it on several images I made tonight. The only previous image I have with me is ISO 100 and there is no line. It seems to only appear on images ISO640 or higher. Any thoughts? Could it be the SD card, damage to the sensor? For a Leica I wouldn't expect to find this even though it's difficult to see without 100% zoom. Thanks. Here is the original image,DNG not processed, ISO640, f/1.7, 1/60sec : Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Hi creidtaylor, Take a look here Is this the so-called banding at ISO640?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Herve5 Posted December 6, 2016 Share #2 Posted December 6, 2016 There is clearly a line here, that one does not expect. But it is different from the banding noise I experiment : in my case it appears only in very dark scenes, for instance night skies with very little light on the main subject (so at higher ISO), and the bands are bands, i. e. regularly repeated patterns not just one. I'll try to find a published raw of it...
Bart van Hofwegen Posted December 6, 2016 Share #3 Posted December 6, 2016 I do not see it in some tests I just did with my Q. If the line is always in the same place, runs the length of the entire frame, then from what I know about sensors I would say that maybe one (or more) rows of pixels is not read correctly from the sensors, or that a line of pixels is not charged correctly during exposure. Since it only happens above a certain ISO level is a bit harder to explain, I do not know if the Leica employs any on-sensor amplification. I place my bet on defective sensor or accompanying electronics, but don't take my word for it, I could be wrong. On the other hand, if it turns out to be defective, than at least there is a clear and repairable cause... If it is not defective, than what to do? You could contact Leica about this issue just to inquire at first. Maybe other users have been seeing the same thing. Which brings me to things that are hard to tell from the images: Is the line 1 or more pixel(s) in size exactly ? Is there any data in it or is it a single color along the length ? Does it get progressively worse at higher ISO values or is there a "switchover" at 640 and stable above that ? You mention it appears in "several" images. Does that mean that it is not consistent above 640, or is it ? Good luck!
baloo2 Posted December 6, 2016 Share #4 Posted December 6, 2016 I am afraid, It's not a banding - it's a hot pixel. Only Leica can fix that by remapping the hot pixel. If your Leica is under warranty, it should be free of charge. Otherwise - on my Leica M8 the price for remapping was nearly 300€.
david strachan Posted December 6, 2016 Share #5 Posted December 6, 2016 ...- on my Leica M8 the price for remapping was nearly 300€. Oooh! That's scary. Hope mine last the distance. As for the Q I do hope it's an easier fix, good luck. ...

I sent an email to the service address from the Leica website. Is there someone specific I should contact in NJ?
creidtaylor Posted February 1, 2017 Author Share #9 Posted February 1, 2017 Leica replaced the sensor in my Q. Turnaround about 4 weeks. Working great.
Iduna Posted February 2, 2017 Share #10 Posted February 2, 2017 Chris, that is good to hear that you can fully enjoy now the sensor and the camera! Thanks for the information. Ba the way: Banding only seemd to bother before the firmware update. It improved a lot and can now only be ssen if you shoot with high ISO and push the dark parts. Then the noise appears in form of wrong pixel colour in stripes. This can be eventually controlled by a good software like NikFilter Collection.
