My S120 lens is my 2nd favorite lens ever (after Noctilux) so that is great news that it works well on the SL..............is the 120mm POW the same as on the S007 or is there some sort of conversion factor using S lenses on the SL??

The 120 on your S has the equivalent 35mm field of view (FOV) of a 96mm lens.  On the SL, which IS already 35mm format, the 120 will naturally have a FOV of a 120mm lens.

Is that (constant brightness) the mode you'd use for flash?

I'd use exposure preview "off" either in studio or perhaps a location like a wedding reception where I don't want to be looking at a black screen.

I'd use exposure preview "on" for when I'm trying to balance flash with the background exposure and when I'm not using flash.

The uncorrected image is basically what you will get in the DNG file..........is that right ?????

Where is the FN button and is it something you need to assign in the menu??

Cheers mate.........when you say on the front is it like the Nikon's where its just sitting there in the hand grip so you can trigger it with your middle or ring finger??

The FN button is on the front panel between the grip and the lens mount, an easy reach with the middle finger for most users. Its native function (short press) are the simulation modes and it rotates through three screen settings:

  • Normal recording screen :: the normal view (also affected by the Exposure Preview menu setting)
  • Aperture simulation (or DoF Preview) :: only useful with dedicated lenses where the body has control of the aperture : marker over the aperture
  • Exposure simulation :: shows the actual exposure including the exposure time : markers over both aperture and shutter time

The exposure simulation mode shows you in the viewfinder the closest approximation to what the DNG file will display when opened in a raw converter.

The FN button can also be assigned a variety of customized function settings (long press). I have mine set to bring up the Lens Profiles menu for easy access when switching between R lenses or M lenses without codes.

I live right next to a Leica store and have been asking them for months if they have the S adapter for the SL. Still to this day, no avail... Where are you guys getting them?

I come from shooting full bodied Nikons and so anything Leica (S aside) is so small and light! But I think with S lenses, the body might need more heft for balance with the lens. Hence my setup in preparation for the day I get my hands on an S adapter, one vertical gripped and the other RRS arca swiss L bracket.
