Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted December 2, 2016 Share #1 Posted December 2, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Question, Has anyone any idea if the rumored new M has more megabytes than the current one. I'm thinking of buying another Noctilux so need something to screw it onto and was hoping for 36 megabytes over the current 21 (I think that's what it is) Anyway I look forward to hear back from you guys? Jeff S Posted December 2, 2016 Share #3 Posted December 2, 2016 But of course you're not interested unless the sensor also grows.... http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/262461-s007-s008-timing/?p=3077995 The M, btw, has the same MP as the SL, which would also work (ugly or not)......24MP. Jeff maybe that new elf will help with the focus that I used to srTruggle with. Hell I don't know I'm bored on the rig and just want to get a new noctilux again. It just doesn't make sense buying the Sid when I already have the S....... does it? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Jeff S Posted December 2, 2016 Share #6 Posted December 2, 2016 It just doesn't make sense buying the Sid when I already have the S....... does it? On the contrary. It gives you additional focus options, especially for tough focusing lenses like the Noctilux (which is a key reason why I mentioned it). It gives you weather sealing, just like the S. It acts as a great back-up to your S since the SL fully adapts S lenses. It uses the same interface as the S. It's a Leica, and shares common rendering traits. It doesn't have RF alignment/mis-focus issues like a (current) M Etc. Jeff

Jeff S Posted December 3, 2016 Share #8 Posted December 3, 2016 You're trying to make sense of your GAS and impulses? There are folks with much higher hourly rates than mine to help. More seriously, everyone has different needs and preferences. There are lots of potential variables, which is why I always encourage folks to try first....especially you, since you're not steeped in the details or analytics and seem unlikely to make a comprehensive checklist on your own; rather you figure these things out after-the-fact and then react quickly (or hastily), for better or worse, to issues that probably should have been on your radar to start. Peter H Posted December 3, 2016 Share #9 Posted December 3, 2016 Comparing the SL with the X1D on the basis of other people's recommendations is one of the biggest wastes of time and money a photographer can make. As Jeff has said often and clearly, you really must try them both out unless the money and time really don't matter to you. I've tried them both. They are both excellent cameras (as virtually every modern camera is) and we're talking about small differences that come down to personal preferences in the end. For every advantage one of them has, you can find another advantage the other has. Edit: Apologies, this is the wrong thread for this really.
