You started the present thread as a "Battle of Bokeh. With all due respect, may I ask you where you see Bokeh in this shot?

OK, maybe your definition of Bokeh and mine are different. For me, Bokeh is the quality of unsharp areas, not unsharpness per se. While the pillow is unsharp, the picture says nothing to me about quality of unsharp areas characterizing a lens. But that´s my opinion, and you have yours...

To many opinions not enough images.

A battle of bokeh is a contradiction in terms. Bokeh cannot be measured in objective or sufficiently intersubjective terms, so there is no linear comparison possible. Bokeh is a galaxy or an internet type of thing, not a railway

Okay so I need some help here. This is the first attempt at this kind of photography. I used my Leica S007 on a tripod and shot at 2.5 as I wanted to blow away the background.

I initially tried it with an off camera flash but wherever I had the flash bouncing it would get into the picture so I just shot with a longer exposure.

Any tips guidance would be much appreciated.

Well it's a good first attempt Neil. Since it's natural light, just use reflectors in that sort of light which is already beautiful, some white card or paper (bigger the better) either side and above and below the lens would work great. Then some little silver reflector, card or one of your missus's pocket mirrors off to the side to pick out the embossed glass with a nice little highlight. I would turn off the overhead lights too and just the natural light work it's wonders.

Is the writing on the back of it a sticker and does it peel off though? It's a bit distracting.

I like the background of the second one the most and think it would be nice if it were shot without the darker bit on the top.

You look like you are at the edge of having to learn about studio/still life photography and lighting..... It is a large subject ;-)

I would suggest starting a new thread as these images are unlikely to be god examples of bokeh.

Also what is your hoped for result? A package shot, something arty or something in-between?

john

It was just for fun...........I remembered watching some English bloke shooting a bottle of Whisky with a Hasselblad and the finished result looked amazing so I just wanted to try it by myself...........Theres a Nikon Academy in KL that runs classes for all kinds of stuff and I think they do a product photography class so I will try and join those guys after Christmas.

Meantime I should get my SL and Noctilux on Wednesday so street photography will be the name of the game once that arrives :) :)
