leica1215 Posted November 28, 2016 Share #1  Posted November 28, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I assume the spot is the most precise mode only one point is most clear but in AF C mode I have to move the focus point manually and it is not the fastest way, which mode are you guys using ?  Static, single point or field? I just got SL about a week, still in learning curve, I maintain shoot people or catwalk, the subject is moving but not very fast movement, trying to find way to get precise focusing one every pictures  I have tried on few occasion, SL lost focus quite few times, I think it's something to do with set up  Thanks in advance   Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Advertisement Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 Hi leica1215, Take a look here Spot , field or zone focus?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
LD_50 Posted November 28, 2016 Share #2 Â Posted November 28, 2016 I don't use tracking with any camera system in that scenario. I also don't move the AF point in that scenario to track. Â Spot AF with back button continuous focusing is how I shoot what you're describing. It works fine. I set the AF point where I want the subject in the frame and then move the camera to track the person, activating C-AF with the joystick button. leica1215 Posted November 28, 2016 Author Share #4  Posted November 28, 2016 I'm using the 24-90, I tried few occasions many times the first shot are in focus and later ones are not, I have set AFC with single point focus , especially the night time shots where the light is not very ideal are easy to lose the focus... thanks   Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
LD_50 Posted November 28, 2016 Share #5 Â Posted November 28, 2016 It's a contrast detection AF system. Low contrast subjects will make for difficult focusing. If you're looking for fast focus with poor contrast you may need to try greater DOF to get more shots in focus. Â I recommend testing in a controlled setup where you can learn more about the "spot" focus behavior, focus speed with various targets, and tracking capabilities (poor in my experience). Point of focus is not exactly on the + spot as may be expected. The system will struggle to demonstrate high speed of acquisition with poor contrast subjects and in low light. leica1215 Posted November 28, 2016 Author Share #6 Â Posted November 28, 2016 So most of you using the AF in spot or field? I don't know if field focus can help getting in focus better? Â Â Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
LD_50 Posted November 28, 2016 Share #7 Â Posted November 28, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I don't use the field option. I did use various zone focusing options with my Nikon kit but that's a totally different focus system. Â I would expect the field option to create a larger target area so the ability to control the point of focus will be diminished. It's going to try to find a point of high contrast in the field and it may not match where you're wanting to focus.
