cluso Posted June 15, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted June 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there, after many years of good and reliable work the tubus with the manual focussing ring became loose. Also, the autofocus seems to be affected by this. I am hoping to be able to fix this myself, as a repair by Leica won't be cheap and I really don't want to invest in the camera at the moment. Â I tried to open the camera body, but I didn't get very far. The bottom part seems to open straight away, but the whole top part of the camera come apart. I don't want to break anything, so I am wondering if anyone has experience with this. Â Cheers, Chris.

marknorton Posted June 16, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted June 16, 2007 Sorry, I do not have experience of the Digilux 1, Images on DPREVIEW suggest it uses a die-cast clam-shell, just like the Digilux 2 and that the lens barrel is secured to the front casting using 4 screws - it's probably these you need to tighten. Â Looks like the two halves of the clamshell are secured by 2 screws as each end, these may be under a decorative trim piece or behind a battery or memory card cover. cluso Posted June 16, 2007 Author Share #4 Â Posted June 16, 2007 Thanks for your reply. I undid all the skrews, there were some underneath the sd card lid and the usb connector lid. It opens up a fair amount in the bottom, but nothing moves at the top. Do you think any of the buttons or the mode dial have to be removed? Have you experience with opening a Digilux 2? Cheers... marknorton Posted June 16, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted June 16, 2007 I think it's unlikely you'll need to remove the knobs, these will likely be secured from inside. Does the camera have a leatherette covering? If so, there may be some screws underneath, which is how it is on the M8. Â Tough for me to know without having the camera in front of me, sorry! cluso Posted June 20, 2007 Author Share #6 Â Posted June 20, 2007 Hi guys, I managed to fix my camera! There actually are two hidden screws underneath the component connector. I got a hint from a very kind Leica technician. Then it is just a matter of completely disassembling the whole camera, including the lens. The barrel with the focussing ring is indeed attached to the case with four screws, like Mark anticipated. As I had everything opened up anyway, I got to clean the viewfinder as well. It would be gread to have a really dust-free room for things like that, otherwise it's close to impossible to get all the dust out. Anyway, now it's heaps better than before. Â All in all it's pretty straightforward, but there are a lot of cables that have to be removed from the main board. Don't hesitate to contact me if you would like to know any more details. Â Thanks for your help, Chris.
