Advertisement Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 Hi Paul J, Take a look here Noctilux for the S007. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
John McMaster Posted December 1, 2016 Share #62 Posted December 1, 2016 There is not much comparison IMO, when I got my M 50mm APO I compared that with 50mm Summilux asph on an M(240) and the S 70/S2-P. The 50mm APO was close in sharpness to the S but way behind in tonality/smoothness, the Summilux was not as good, so the Noctilux would be closer to the Summilux than the APO.... john
Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted December 1, 2016 Share #63 Posted December 1, 2016 Neil, when you owned a Noctilux were you able to compare it with your 70mm Summarit-S? No Paul. What I did was trade in my M gear for a new S006 plus S70mm so the Noctilux went into the pot as such. I loved that Noctilux lens, I've yet to get any of my current S lenses to give me the same rendering

I'm just trying to find an option that gives the rendering with better resolution - something I don't think is going to come with the M anymore. I've found some Summarit images that come close but the Noctilux just has that extra something special, separate to tonality, detail etc.

albertknappmd Posted December 1, 2016 Share #68 Posted December 1, 2016 There was a recent article in the LHSA viewfinder where the Noct was combined with the SL and the photos are extraordinary. More importantly, the SL AF handled the lens exceedingly well. It was in the last issue.. Albert

djmay Posted December 1, 2016 Share #70 Posted December 1, 2016 Or you go longer to get a similar look. S 006 with 180mm Elmar-S. That is quite a jump so it may not be practical in many cases. Paul J Posted December 1, 2016 Share #72 Posted December 1, 2016 Beautiful. I think the 180mm seems very under rated. Also in relation to a Noctilux look, the 100 Summicron-S is truly beautiful, and closer still, but again it's like a 80mm f2 and just that bit too long to supplant a Noctilux. FlashGordonPhotography Posted December 1, 2016 Share #73 Posted December 1, 2016 So what we need is a S70mm 1.4 ASPH? Preferably in a CS version..... I bags first in line.... Gordon
FlashGordonPhotography Posted December 1, 2016 Share #74 Posted December 1, 2016 I might get another one and try it on my A7r2 Try it first. I'm not wild about the Noctilux on my A7R2. On the SL it is stunning. Gordon

But I have no reason to replace my M with a 24MP SL either.
Jeff S Posted December 1, 2016 Share #77 Posted December 1, 2016 There were a number of S lenses that were hoped for, and anticipated to be just around the corner (more tele lenses, wider T/S lenses, etc, according to David Farkas posts here). But that was a few years ago already.....before recognizing that many of the current ones didn't function so well. Before wishing for more again, it would be nice just to get the current ones right. By that time, maybe the S will have changed as well. On the other hand, I bet any new S lenses wouldn't skimp on motors, and might be more thoroughly tested. I think maybe they got them right with the SL (size aside). Jeff
