Optically it does nothing, so cannot deteriorate IQ. Look at the many examples to make sure, if you cannot believe it. Â The adaptor is slightly thicker (fraction of a mm) than it needs to be in order to allow all lenses to reach infinity even if they are slightly miscalibrated. Â That means that it's possible that you can focus slightly past infinity. So you might not be able to rely on the lens hard stop for infinity focus. Â There are, of course, other properties of an adapter than the thickness which determine how useful it is. It must hold the lens in the center of and parallel to the mount.
