jaapv Posted June 14, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 14, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) It seemd like an epidemic - but it has all but disappeared from the radar. Was it a faulty component and have most camera's that had it died by now? Was it ectoplasm? Has Leica done something to stop it in the firmware? Unanswered questions....Just wondering. colorflow Posted June 14, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 14, 2007 It seemd like an epidemic - but it has all but disappeared from the radar. Was it a faulty component and have most camera's that had it died by now? Was it ectoplasm? Has Leica done something to stop it in the firmware? Unanswered questions....Just wondering. I suspect it was fixed in firmware. The symptoms were suspicious of a firmware bug in power management. Mine had SDS. Sent it in for fix and hardware update. Leica said it was fine when it arrived there. No repair was performed other than the hardware update for early M8s and new firmware. No problem since. Alan. Shootist Posted June 14, 2007 Share #3 Posted June 14, 2007 From reading other threads on this I think it was mostly caused by a faulty resister, out of spec or failed in some way, on one of the circuit boards.
ioriw Posted June 15, 2007 Share #4 Posted June 15, 2007 Well I've had a form of it happen on all firmware versions right from the beginning in October. Completely dead camera, a couple of times after having put in a freshly charged battery the night before, going out to shoot the next morning, totally dead out of the bag.. very worrying and niggling feeling in the back of the mind, will the M8 hold up for this two day trip.. etc. All the times my camera was revived by inserting a freshly charged battery a few hours later.. DaveEP Posted June 16, 2007 Share #5 Posted June 16, 2007 I 'thought' I had experienced SDS just as I arrived at the vatican for a tour. Hmmm.... Nothing working. Nothing at all. Turn on, turn off, turn on, half press the shutter , nothing! Pull the battery out, put it back, turn on, half press the shutter, nothing. Do this 2 or three times.... nothing. Bugger! Then take the battery out and replace with another one - Bingo! Hmmm.... take the second battery out and put the first one back in and Bingo - everything working perfectly. Explain that one ! This is exactly what I experienced; however the camera would not start when the switch around the shutter release was turned on, but I also have to press slightly on the shutter. Others have mentioned this; is it the first sign before SDS?
