Digilux 2 - Mistreated While Being Serviced?

This past Monday my D2 was finally returned, after an extended stay at the Leica service department in New Jersey to have the sensor replaced.

The first thing I noticed was that the black textured material on the front, right-hand side (below the red Leica logo) looks like it has a fine, white powdery substance all over it. That was not there when I sent them the camera.

I took a Q-tip dampened with distilled water and tried to clean it off. While it was wet, it looked fine. However, when it dried it was still there.

So here's my question: Is there anything out there that I can use to clean this off and "dress" the black textured material (rubber?) without damaging it?

Thanks!

Jay

Surely the right people to ask at the outset is Leica service department in New Jersey. Or perhaps you have done that and drawn a blank. Certainly if you believe that it has happened in Leica's care you should inform them. It may well be something that they recognise and are prepared to put their hands up for.

i just got my digilux back from NJ , i had it in to replace the rubber facing you mention. mine had started pulling away from the camera body.

i must say they did the job on time and beautifully... no complaints here at all...

perhaps if this was done by leica they can replace it
