emilefrey Posted October 24, 2016 Share #1 Posted October 24, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just got my Leica Q in today! Current owners, do you hear a small click when you go in and out of AF? I feel like I "forced" it without the lock pushed in enough and am worried I messed something up. Nothing feels/sounds abnormal (I know I'm answering my own question, ha!). And the lock works perfectly. I just need peace of mind (largest camera puchase ever) that even with the lock pushed in, there's a little click going back into AF. Thank you! Advertisement Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Hi emilefrey, Take a look here Leica Q AF Click. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Herve5 Posted October 24, 2016 Share #2 Posted October 24, 2016 I can confirm on mine that there is a gentle double-click noise (but even lower than the shutter noise), both when you engage and disengage manual focus. Incidentally, that noise is much lower than the relatively frightening rattle inside the optics when the camera is off (no noise when on). And all of this still works perfectly well after six months and a firmware upgrade. H. P. S. largest cam purchase too -had to turn back all other gear I had ;-)

A hushed double click. Thank you for the quick reply. I'm finally sitting down "playing" with my new toy. I'm loving it and the image quality thus far. I'm in the process of selling off my Canon equipment. Thanks again.
SonomaBear Posted October 25, 2016 Share #4 Posted October 25, 2016 Don't really notice and noise from the AF nubbin on the focus lever. I'm in and out of AF frequently, so maybe I've worn down whatever clicked... or my old ears are less than... I leave it in AF but often "see" my focus target and choose manual rather than fiddling with moving the focus spot... Either lazy or too stuck in the old MF days! Iduna Posted October 25, 2016 Share #5 Posted October 25, 2016 yes there is a smooth soft decent sound but in a noisy situation you won't hear it but better get a feeling whether the AF is settled. I often then test whether it is locked in.
MickyW Posted October 25, 2016 Share #6 Posted October 25, 2016 Mmmmmm mine doesn't click To go from autofocus to manual I have to press the small catch on the thumby, and to go back in to autofocus I have to press it again while I move the lever in to the autofocus position, until it stops. I can't just shove the manual focus lever in to that position, there is a resistance, and I'm not about to force it. So either way I have to press the small catch ... no click as it goes back in to the autofocus position! Dunno if that all makes sense
zakzavada Posted October 26, 2016 Share #7 Posted October 26, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) The clicking is the ois in the lens engaging. It's mentioned in cragmod's review (great read). http://craigmod.com/sputnik/leica_q/

Herve5 Posted October 26, 2016 Share #9 Posted October 26, 2016 The clicking is the ois in the lens engaging. I don't use OIS, and the clicking I'm talking about happens (only) when the camera is off. It has been discussed here many times already; what worries me a bit is the noise is stronger with time. I hear it very clearly now, while I belong to those that denegated it in the early threads. When the camera is of and you move it left and right, you really hear glass dinging... The physical mechanism is present whether you have it turned on in the settings or not so it is still going to make noise when it moves around. The physical mechanism is present whether you have it turned on in the settings or not so it is still going to make noise when it moves around. I agree on all this -what I just meant was, the noise was much lower in the first months. At leas it's my impression, as obviously I cannot quantitatively compare. Would be very interesting to gently shake a brand new Q and an 'old' one...
orc999 Posted November 1, 2016 Share #12 Posted November 1, 2016 i have my second Q now. sold the first one to fund other projects. both have the rattling when off. HOWEVER: my current one is rattling while in focus lock and recompose. als there is a "screwdriver" noise while focusing. ois off and afs. not sure if its just me or the other model did not have that.
