ArtZ Posted June 13, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 13, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I got a M8 last Saturday (which is in the way back to Solms because it died after 24 hours use); my reseller replaced it for a new one yesterday. Both cameras have a funny firmware v1.094. My reseller changed for 1.102 on the first camera. I have decided to leave the second one in 1.094 until I get the IR/UV filters. Have you ever heard about this firmware version? Another thing that surprises me are serial numbers. Both of them start 332xxxx and when I tried to register both M8, I had to send an email to Leica to enter the serial number in their database. Do you have any opinion about these issues? An email to Leica and it was sorted out.

Shootist Posted June 14, 2007 Share #6 Posted June 14, 2007 Yes, this is the version that was released for a couple of hours and then pulled. Eric No that was 1.091. then a few days, or a week, later they released 1.092. 1.094 was never released to the general public.
ArtZ Posted June 14, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted June 14, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I hope the IR/UV will arrive soon... I find very difficult to get nice shots in low light conditions. Yesterday night, I decided to upgrade the new M8 to 1.102 and I've noticed a slight improvement under low artificial light. I keep processing with CS3 and Lightroom. As I've never used C1 before, I get better results on Adobe Products. Do you have any information when C1 v.4 (native Vista support) will be on the market? Cheers
EricC Posted June 14, 2007 Share #8 Posted June 14, 2007 No that was 1.091. then a few days, or a week, later they released 1.092. 1.094 was never released to the general public. Ooops, yes, you are correct. I have just re-checked and i have 1.091, 1.092 and 1.102. Cheers Eric

robsteve Posted June 14, 2007 Share #12 Posted June 14, 2007 Guy NO it wan't. See my post above. Ed did you mean it wasn't a beta or it wasn't released to the public? Guy is a beta tester, so he would know if it was a beta.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted June 14, 2007 Share #13 Posted June 14, 2007 Ed since it is old news now it was a beta version and I was testing it before it hit the internet by accident. i though when we saw it it went public but it was a accident that it hit there web site for release which i think stayed on for a little bit until it was discovered. But if someone has it on there body , i would certainly load 1.102 on since there are some fixes from 1.

ArtZ Posted June 14, 2007 Author Share #16 Posted June 14, 2007 Guys, As I told you both bodies (the old one and the new one) were sold (new) with the firmware version1.094. I didn't get this version from the Internet. This firmware version had been installed by Leica at Solms. For the first body (which is travelling from Paris to Solms), my dealer, "La Maison du Leica", replaced the firmware (from 1.094 to 1.102) when they checked that the lenses I bought fitted to the camera properly (apparently, there're some problems with that and many lenses and/or bodies must be replaced for this reason). As my first M8 died 24 hours later, "La Maison du Leica" gave me a new one. BTW, Leica wants to inspect urgently my first body because all the defaults I had with it are well known at Solms but they were NEVER present in the same body all together. Leica seems to be afraid of a whole defective series. When I got the replacement body, I asked no to upgrade the firmware. I thought I will wait to get the filters to upgrade to v1.102 in the hope that the new beta version being tested right now will be released at this time. Finally, yesterday night, I made up my mind and I upgraded to v1.102 even if the filters have not arrived yet. I took some pictures (identical) in low artificial light with version v1.094 and version v1.102. I can tell you those taken with v1.102 are better than those taken with v1.094. But none of them are good enough, probably because I don't have the IR/UV filters. I just cross my fingers in the hope there's no a major problem with 3329XXX series and I won't need to change once more my M8. Yesterday morning I took a picture at home and I left my M8 in "sleeping" mode (battery was fully charged). When I tried to take antoher picture in the afternoon, the battery had run out. Attila von Gyimes told me that I had to replace the battery. He phoned "La Maison du Leica" and they replaced the battery... I hope the problem comes really from the battery and not from the electronics in the M8. I'm really disappointed... I feel like a beta tester but I must pay Leica first to get the privilege of testing!
lmf Posted June 14, 2007 Share #17 Posted June 14, 2007 My camera also has 1.094. I sent it in for service with 1.09 loaded and it came back with 1.094. Simply because that's the latest version they had inhouse at the time I guess - which was right inbetween the 1.092 and 1.102 release. I've been slightly reluctant to upgrading it since I can't revert to this version.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted June 15, 2007 Share #18 Posted June 15, 2007 pretty surprised this was on these camera's because it was a beta but at the time maybe that was all they had to load. It did have some improvements over 1.
