This outsmarting attempt is quite futile.

A backup camera is there for this very reason. And a batteryless backup camera is a sound proposition. Godforbid, imagine an inoperable backup camera.

Really?

You take the effort to carry a backup camera but can't remember to take a battery? You just put a battery in your camera bag. If you can't remember that then I don't know what to say. And, if you forget the battery you still get two pretty useful mechanical speeds.

My best shots always seem to happen at the 39th frame. Yes, the ones I never took.

Yesterday! Missed a shot that I'd be proud of, for ages!!! Where was my Leica that I usually carry 99.9999% of the time? Home, of course!

30 minutes ago, another great moment from the car. Where was my camera? In the trunk. Of course.

And all those missed moments because, from the start of the day, I had to put the camera away because if a dead battery.

I could publish a book full of photographic masterpieces if only I shot those damned images with an unavailable/unready camera.

Luckily, my 100% Mechanical cameras saved a few of those shots.

These things always happen when you wish they shouldn't. 100% of the time. This is the very nature of the beast.

I'd be interested to hear from those who have been affected by this issue. How tricky is it to carry a few spare batteries? I carry spare SR44s, just in case.

On the M6 and the MP, it is good to get in the habit of moving the shutter speed dial to B after shooting. This seems to prevent premature battery drain.

I love these threads.

It's a good one isn't it! My favourite threads generally go something like this:

OP: I'm going to (insert foreign city) for three days and have X, Y, and Z lenses for a film M. What should I take?

1. Responses 1 -10 are a mix of:

-When I went to a different city, I took lenses A, B, and C. They were the best!

-Use what you use at home, what's the problem?

-I only take one lens. If you don't then you won't have fun and your significant other won't like it.

-Just use your phone.

-You should get a D, E, F camera instead.

2. Then we get one of the following:

-Don't take film, have you heard about X-rays?

-What bag are you taking? "Carry on only is the ONLY way to travel!"

3. From here we get to discussing which Billingham is the best for the kit the OP doesn't even own, or the bad and good hearsay experience regarding X-rays.

3a. Occasionally someone will offer unrelated travel advice about nearby destinations that can be very helpful. These are unlikely to steer the thread back on course  though, we've been blown way off topic!

4. Then, once the OP has returned, they show some pictures and let us know what they took and what worked and what didn't and what they'd do next time.

5. Usually 1-2 months later, a new post chimes in responding to the initial question without having read the thread and the cycle continues indefinitely.

Breaks out suspiciously similar to a conversation between human beings standing face to face in the physical world. Say, maybe this interwebs works better than I thought...

Easy to take care of.

I really like the silver rim on my MP. It matches the black Zeiss Biogon 35/2 and Planar 50/2 's silver rim perfectly.

And the red dots on the rewind lever and the red "off" setting on the shutter speed dial matches the  Zeiss lenses red distance scale markings perfectly also!

The Zeiss ZM's are the best looking lenses on the MP for this reason in my opinion. They also have a "paint" that is shinier than the Leica lenses, and is thus a better match for the shiny black paint finish :)

Ironically, I also prefer these two ZM's over the Leica counterparts IQ and handling wise - the 35/2 ASPH and 50/2 V5, that is.
