Hello,

I´m really happy with the SL-Vario-Elmar 24-90. I think it´s one of the best lenses I every used. But for walk around and travel a bit large and heavy. I thought about the old Vario-Elmar-R 4 35-70. The overall rating is very good in the net.

Does anybody use it on the SL? How are your experiences?

Can someone please post a pic of the combo attached to the SL?

I wonder if the difference in size is big attached on the SL with the needed adapter compared to the SL-Vario-Elmar.

Thanks, best,

Peter__

Hi,

I just purchased a Leica SL and am awaiting its arrival. Then as soon as I can obtain the R to SL adapter, I'll be using my 35-70 f4 Vario-Elma on it as my main lens. [emoji4]

The difference is big, but the 24-90 offers more. (Also more IQ)

If 35-70 is enough for you, then the lens is great. But I like the Contax 3.4/35-70 just as well. It is even slightly smaller and "better looking". Only the macro mode is different (at 35mm in Contax, at 70mm in the Leica).

They were both produced by Kyocera, so they have more in common than most think. (It makes almost no difference if you adapt a Contax or an R lens).

I would say for landscape the 24-90 is better, as IQ is very high from center up to the corners. The 35-70 is a great lens for taking portraits - you find many examples in the photo section.

The SL with a "normal" zoom:

Hi Robert,

please be so kind and send me, or post a picture of the combo that I can see how big it is.

The SL is great! But even greater with the native SL-lenses. You will see, you will be looking out for the 24-90 soon;-)

Thanks,

Peter__
