Well I don't work for B&H. In fact I live 900 miles away from B&H. The only reason I posted this was, 1) I know there have been a lot of people on this forum looking for that lens. 2) It was actually posted last night in another thread, the one about availability of this lens, that they were in stock at B&H and this morning when I saw it was still in stock I figured that no one read that post in the other thread. I would like to hear how many, if any, people bought it from B&H after see my post.
luigi bertolotti Posted June 14, 2007 Share #8 Posted June 14, 2007 Ed, I did not intended that you ore some else "work" for B&H (and, BTW, it would be not a shame): mine one was simply an episodic thought abou how the net can really accellerate some buisness processes
Ariston Posted June 14, 2007 Share #9 Posted June 14, 2007 I purchased one of the lenses from B&H after seeing the previous post on the availability of the 28mm. Ideally I would have liked to buy in the UK and prefereably fom a local delaer but have been greeted with raised eybrows and a sigh whenever I have asked about the lens over the last few months. Some dealers here in London say they have only seen a couple of the lenses since its launch last year. Having just missed out on a couple of individual lenses at stockists in the UK, I bit the bullet and bought from B&H, just hoping I won't get slaughtered on the tax/duty/handling fees... Ariston Posted June 15, 2007 Share #11 Posted June 15, 2007 Well, the bill is now in and I got charged GBP 208.70 which includes VAT, UK customs duty and UPS handling charge. I'm not particulaarly surprised, but from experience my estimates of import costs are always significantly less than the final amount, maybe I'm just an optimist. Anyway, it has proved yet again that it's always better to buy locally, if the stock exists that is...
jackal Posted June 15, 2007 Share #12 Posted June 15, 2007 you need to get it marked down as "returned goods" and ask the dealer to send invoices/receipts separately. that way there will be no customs charge. of course most US based dealers play it by the book and won't actually do that i got stung around 450 quid for my Noctilux but i objected and filled out a form and wrote a letter and am getting a full refund including the parcelfoce charge of 15 pounds.
