Advertisement Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 Hi neli, Take a look here Convert M240 to Monochrom. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
John McMaster Posted October 8, 2016 Share #2 Posted October 8, 2016 Why not sell it and buy an M(246)? That is a far more realistic approach... john
ECohen Posted October 8, 2016 Share #3 Posted October 8, 2016 HI All Is this technically feasible, either by removing the bayer filter or replacing the sensor in Wetzlar? Why do you want to do this? Set your camera on B&W only for a while......If you still desire a Monochrome, sell your 240 and buy one?
mjh Posted October 8, 2016 Share #4 Posted October 8, 2016 Is this technically feasible, either by removing the bayer filter or replacing the sensor in Wetzlar? In theory you could replace the sensor board and the firmware to turn the M into an M Monochrom but in practice that isn’t really feasible. As others have suggested you should sell your M (Typ 240) and get a new or used M Monochrom instead.
DezFoto Posted October 11, 2016 Share #5 Posted October 11, 2016 Technically, if you're brave, you could remove the bayer pattern tinting from the microlenses with a solvent but I wouldn't recommend it, it would be very easy to irreparably damage your sensor. Better to sell it and buy a proper MM.

Belle123 Posted October 11, 2016 Share #7 Posted October 11, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Get the 246 or original M monochrome. If you watch a video of taking apart a 240, you won't want to attempt it. There are companies that will do these conversions, I recently had a T converted to infrared which works great. But would not do this to an M unless was an expert in tearing apart and putting together an M. If you want a monochrome without getting the M246, look up these conversion companies and see what models they will do.
mjh Posted October 11, 2016 Share #8 Posted October 11, 2016 And converting a camera to infrared is a relatively simple task as you only need to exchange the cover glass. Getting to the colour filter array is much more of a challenge.
