Scott Root Posted June 13, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted June 13, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mathematically it seems the 1.25 viewfinder magnifier will work with a 35mm lens on the M8 since the 28mm frame lines are fairly/relatively legible for those without glasses and 28 times 1.33 equals 37.24, which is very close to 35. Conclusion is, without buying the 1.25 viewfinder magnifier, that if I purchase the viewfinder magnifier the 35mm frame lines viewed through the magnifier will look just slightly outside the 28mm frame lines as perceived without the magnifier. Anyone have practical experience with this they care to share?
Advertisement Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Hi Scott Root, Take a look here viewfinder magnifier with 35mm lens?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
dseelig Posted June 13, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted June 13, 2007 For me the widest lens I want to look at with a 1.25 is a 35 on an m8 . Although I got a non leica one from hk supplies for 55 bucks. My dealer cannot get a leica one for months now David
sean_reid Posted June 14, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted June 14, 2007 A 1.25 works well for 35 mm and longer lenses on the M8 (to my eye - I don't wear glasses). Â Sean
Scott Root Posted June 14, 2007 Author Share #4 Â Posted June 14, 2007 Sean--thanks for confirming that I can use it with my 35mm lens. Â Scott
norm_snyder Posted June 14, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted June 14, 2007 Probably of interest for glasses owners--If you get glasses with spring hinged temples, you can "mash" your eye closer to the finder [i'm left-eyed to boot], and not permanently distort the shape of your glasses. This will get your eye closer, and make the framelines [barely] visible--at least three sides at a time.
wparsonsgisnet Posted June 14, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted June 14, 2007 I leave the magnifier on even when using the 24mm lens. This little gadget makes focusing a whole lot easier. Â Go for it.

highlander Posted July 22, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted July 22, 2007 Walter, Try Ebay, if you do not already have a solution. I have a Leica 1.25 magnifier which I use with a +Three dioptre attachment, just flip the glasses up and away you go. The only downside to the other makes is that you cannot use a dioptre lens to assist. The versions marketed by Megaperls have their own built in dioptre adjustment but in my case it was not enough. I have an early version from Hong Kong but do not use it as my glasses are varifocals and I do not want them scratched they cost as much as a Leica lens, so that will probably be headed to Ebay some day soon. Best wishes to all ... Jim.
marknorton Posted July 22, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted July 22, 2007 I got round the scratching issue by glueing a neoprene rubber washer onto the back of the HKS magnifier.
gareth_c Posted July 24, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted July 24, 2007 Is there a magnifier that will create a 100% effect on the M8. One thing I really liked about the R-D1 was the 1:1 scale view, enabling me to shoot with both eyes open, so to speak.
jaapv Posted July 24, 2007 Share #12 Â Posted July 24, 2007 The 1.35 on an M8 will give yo 91.8 close enough to 1:
gareth_c Posted July 24, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted July 24, 2007 Thanks. I didn't even realise there was a 1.35 available.
