After reviewing it on the Leica SL with the S-Adapter L, I reviewed the Super-Elmar-S 24mm f/3.5 on the Leica S (Typ 007) as well. You can see the article here:

well done Vieri, thank you.

My widest lens is the 30mm end of the Vario 30-90 but I am almost tempted when I read your review. Does the difference of 24mm vs 30mm make a huge difference when working landscapes (measured against the pain of having to change lenses in the field)?

Thank you Pascal, I am glad you enjoyed the read :)

About your question, I think that there is a sizeable difference if field of view between a 24mm and a 19mm FOV equivalent (in terms of 35mm). In terms of angle of view, it is about 84' for the 30mm vs 96-97' for the 24mm, which is not a small difference. However, it all boils down to how much you like wide-angle landscapes: I love working with WA and ultra-WA, but your style might be different.

Best,

Vieri

Definitely, the 24mm is like almost 18mm (or 19mm) vs a 24mm, the difference is quite big!

Hi Pascal,

There is also a difference in image quality, the 24mm is outstanding.  otoh I am inclined to carry one lens (weight pain, lens change pain)and stitch two images together, this will increase the angle of coverage if not the exact same look of the wider 24mm.

I have the 24mm and it is amazing. It is the equivalent of a 19mm lens (35mm format) and the optics are flawless. Zero distortion and MTF charts are stunning. One of my favorites..

The photo you see is from Olympic national park in Washington and the moss covered trees are actually five or six feet in front of me..

A fellow can dream, can't he?  :)

But people do give up on the system from time to time. I paid about half list price for my 35, 70, and 120. I can wait. Maybe...

The Leica Stores have Q stock, the price is reduced from list.

My copy was listed as Q but shows no signs of use, it was also the display.

Well, hell, it should be at $10K!!

Wouldn't mind having one at half the price ;)

It's not impossible, with a little patience - I found mine at a little over 3.000 euro in perfect conditions :D Best,

Hello Alan, the review is still online of course. You can find it here:

All the best,

Hi Vieri,

I was referring to your review of the lens on the S 007. That page remains blank:

Hi Alan, sorry for the wrong link, I am on the road now, on the Asturian coasts of Spain, and I copied the wrong like for you - however, even with the slowish connections here I can access the right link you posted here just fine. Can you please send me a message from my website (not to pollute the forum with that) and elaborate on the error you get? Thanks! :)

Best,

Vieri
