Henry Fool Posted August 22, 2016 Share #1 Posted August 22, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi - I found a strange problem on my M8.2 last night, the shutter release button stopped working, i.e. it won't fire the shutter. All other buttons, menus etc are working fine and if the shutter is set to the timer it counts down 10 seconds and fires the shutter, so it doesn't appear to be a problem with the stutter... just the shutter release button. Any ideas on what the issue might be? Thanks :-)

NB23 Posted August 24, 2016 Share #2 Posted August 24, 2016 Did you use it with a softie and it broke? If not, try a softie and see if it will work
Henry Fool Posted August 30, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted August 30, 2016 I don't have a soft release so I can't try that I'm afraid - i think I'll have to bring it into my nearest leica store, really hope that don't have to send it off to wetzlar
farnz Posted August 30, 2016 Share #4 Posted August 30, 2016 Mine had the same problem and it turned out to be a broken shutter that needed to be replaced at significant cost. I hope yours is not this. I found some threads on the forum dealing with non-working shutter releases and it turns out that sometimes the shutter can get stuck and a smart jolt can unstick it. I recall that other successful remedies were posted too that didn't involve mechanically shocking the camera but I don't remember what they were now. Pete. Henry Fool Posted September 12, 2016 Author Share #5 Posted September 12, 2016 Thanks Pete, I don't think it's the shutter because the stutter still works perfectly when the auto timer is used, I think it's something to do with the button itself. Henry Fool Posted September 16, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted September 16, 2016 UPDATE - Good news, it's fixed. I look the battery and sd card out for an hour or so and when I put it them back in everything was back working again... maybe it had become a little confused, happens to all of us with age apparently ;-)
