pgk Posted July 31, 2016 Share #21 Â Posted July 31, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) One problem with finding replacement screws, etc is that sometimes Manufacturers make parts like screws to "proprietary standards". This sometimes means that the Manufacturer chooses a non-standard diameter, pitch, etc & then makes the parts to that different standard. Not my experience. Why manufacture a complex grub screw when you can buy them at ludicrously low prices per unit? I have stripped down several (Japanese) cameras and a couple of years ago I gave all the tiny screws to a camera repairer specialising in European cameras and he was very pleased to have them. Advertisement Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Hi pgk, Take a look here Lens hood on a 3m old 50mm Summilux - Kaput for the sake of a 1p grub screw. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pico Posted July 31, 2016 Share #22 Â Posted July 31, 2016 I have a fond spot in my heart for small fasteners. This week I passed a strong magnet through a vibratory polisher and found a dearly missed tiny screw that worked for a Focotar I rebuilt. The screw driver had a tip I could not see without a loupe. That's precision! Â In all, I am fascinated by micro-tools. They do not take up much space. Oh, and they usually co$t more than their big brothers. I do love the field of micro-machining. Small is good to me.
andybarton Posted July 31, 2016 Author Share #23  Posted July 31, 2016 Micro grub screws are a complete pain in the arse when they fall into a drain cover when they should be sitting happily snug in a £2500 lens.      Fact
andybarton Posted August 2, 2016 Author Share #24 Â Posted August 2, 2016 The lens will be on its way to Leica Mayfair this afternoon. Goodness only knows when I will see it again.

Denys Posted August 2, 2016 Share #27 Â Posted August 2, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hope you get it back soon Andy! I guess the reason Mayfair wouldn't send you the part is because you fitting it would void the lens' warranty?
andybarton Posted August 9, 2016 Author Share #28 Â Posted August 9, 2016 I picked up the lens from my local dealer this afternoon. Â In the end, he obtained a screw from Leica and fixed it himself. If it had gone to Mayfair, it would have had to go to Wetzlar to be repaired. Can you believe it? Â Anyway, as always, excellent service from David Stephens, even though I actually bought the lens elsewhere.
