thighslapper Posted July 18, 2016 Share #21  Posted July 18, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Why does one need a case for a weather sealed camera???  That's what I'm beginning to wonder ......  I have a beautiful Arte de Mano black case and strap in Black Barenia (the stuff they use for Hermes handbags) .......  Unfortunately I ordered it long before I decided to abandon neck straps and use a hand strap/grip with a tripod plate to attach it .......  Of all the Leica cameras I have this is the one that doesn't really need a half case .... Advertisement Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Hi thighslapper, Take a look here Leica SL - Arte di mano. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
kikouyou Posted July 18, 2016 Share #22  Posted July 18, 2016 I do have the Arte de Mano case, and it is gorgeous, I am unit the modular strap from peak design, either the hand one that leverage the tripod screw or the large neck strap (large is needed with this camera to distribute the weight). The reason why I use this case is 2 fold. 1- I like the feel and smell of it. 2- It protects the camera so that if/when I sell my cameras they are in very good shape with no scratch. Mikewest Posted October 9, 2016 Share #23 Â Posted October 9, 2016 Hello I have the Arte di Mano case too. It's very well made. However, I find the Sl bulkier with it and is less easier to use (access to button, joystick). Do you think half case is necessary to protect the SL? Is the paint fragile? Do you have other experiences with other half case? For example, does Angello Pelle fit better than ADM cases? Â Thank you very much. Mike
ramarren Posted October 9, 2016 Share #24  Posted October 9, 2016 I haven't seen much reason to use a case with the SL.  I usually fit a half case to give my fingers a better grip on the camera. I found this necessary for the M9 and M-P because their gripping area is seriously compromised by all the control buttons and the LCD; in cool weather, they felt very slick to my fingers and I thought I might drop them in use. The SL has plenty of gripping surface, and is weather sealed too, so I've had no reason to use a half case. (The same has been true of the M-D ... plenty of good gripping surface, no need for a half case.)  I've been using the SL a lot since November 2015. There's not a mark on it, so I don't worry about the finish too much.
AZach Posted October 9, 2016 Share #25 Â Posted October 9, 2016 In my hands the size (SL with M-lenses) and grip are just perfect without any case.

Sandokan Posted October 10, 2016 Share #27  Posted October 10, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I prefer the grip of leather to the metal. Feels more secure.  The size is fine with the case on.  I like the look of the leather.  Do I score "bingo"?
steppenw0lf Posted October 11, 2016 Share #28  Posted October 11, 2016 You might wear a leather glove instead. For shooting sport there are special gloves with a missing or capped index finger (don't be afraid, just the glove, not your hand  )
vladik Posted October 18, 2016 Share #29  Posted October 18, 2016 The strap is a very nice padded leather 15" with the same arced profile as the supplied one and similar nylon ends/fitments.  What is meaning of 15"? Please.
kuau Posted October 22, 2016 Share #30 Â Posted October 22, 2016 I just finally got my hands on a SL 24-90 setup. Does putting on a half case help with the handling of the SL? In my hands I found the bottom right corner of the SL does dig into my palm a little bit creating a little discomfort.

In my hands I found the bottom right corner of the SL does dig into my palm a little bit creating a little discomfort. This is my feeling too. I now use the Really Right Stuff BSL L-Plate for the SL with heavy lenses. It makes the body about 12 mm taller so the grip is better and more comfortable, at least in my hand YMMV. I was actually thinking the exact same thing with RRS if I end up purchasing the SL kit I will start with just the bottom plate of the RRS making the SL a little taller which for me is OK and it looks like the bottom corner gets a little more rounded off
