Maximus Posted July 6, 2016 Share #1  Posted July 6, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not sure where to put this, so have posted on the R forum too.I'm thinking about buying a Summilux-R 80 f1.4 and M-R Adaptor for my Monochrom Typ 246.I understand there are different versions of this lens - 1 cam, 3 cam, ROM. My question is, will they all work the same on my 246 especially with regarding to focus peaking on the EVF2?Also, without the EVF2 which frame lines will be displayed?Cheers
Advertisement Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Hi Maximus, Take a look here Summilux-R f1.4 on Typ 246. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
steppenw0lf Posted July 6, 2016 Share #2 Â Posted July 6, 2016 Look into the wiki, I think optically they are all identical. (other differences are only important for R8 or R9 cameras.) You can use it on the M246 but only with the EVF - so simply forget frame lines. I would recommend you use it on the SL (size suits better, EVF is far better), or buy the Summilux-M 1.4/75 for the M246.
gvaliquette Posted July 6, 2016 Share #3  Posted July 6, 2016 I have an 80mm f1.4 Summilux-R ROM.  It is a wonderful and unique lens.  The ROM, and cam numbers, are irrelevant on an M-camera, but might be relevant to the R-T adapter.  I am looking forward to getting an SL, in good part to use with this lens.  The M240 with EVF is a little awkward to use, in my opinion.  No experience with the 75mm Summilux-M, although i expect it to be very close to the 80mm and have the same "magic".  Not easy to find, however.  Guy
farnz Posted July 6, 2016 Share #4 Â Posted July 6, 2016 Maximus, Â I've used the 80/1.4 Summilux ROM with my M240 and the cams and ROM make no difference whatsoever because the R to M adaptor fits them all but uses the M's coding LEDs to notify the M that there's an R lens attached and then you pick the particular lens from the list in the menu. Â Â Focus peaking with the 80 Summilux on my M240 is a bit hit and miss (it is also on my SL) because it's a Mandler lens and is therefore a lower contrast lens, which focus peaking sometimes struggles with. Â As you stop down focus peaking is more reliable but of course you have greater depth of field by then so focussing is a little less crucial than if you were shooting wide open. Â There are no frame lines in the EVF, it uses the entire EVF screen. Â The R to M adaptor brings up the 28-90 frames in the (optical) viewfinder although that's beside the point because the adaptor's not rangefinder coupled of course. Â Pete. JeffWright Posted July 9, 2016 Share #5  Posted July 9, 2016 Not sure where to put this, so have posted on the R forum too.  I'm thinking about buying a Summilux-R 80 f1.4 and M-R Adaptor for my Monochrom Typ 246.  I understand there are different versions of this lens - 1 cam, 3 cam, ROM. My question is, will they all work the same on my 246 especially with regarding to focus peaking on the EVF2?  Also, without the EVF2 which frame lines will be displayed?  Cheers    I used to own both the 80 R Summilux and 75 M Summilux.  I used both for many years. When the M Typ 240 came out, I was finally able to do a reasonable side-by-side comparison. I found that they perform identically on the Typ 240, so sold the 80, since it's not rangefinder coupled. The downside to the 80 is being forced to use the EVF; although for critical focus I rely on the EVF anyway (others mileage may vary).  The advantage for the R lens of course is that it is much cheaper.   The difference in versions is primarily going to be age, the design is essentially unchanged thorugh the life of the lens. I had a 3-cam version, about a year newer than my early 1980s 75 'lux. The ROM version adds nothing except cost, unless you have an R8/R9 +/- a DMR.
