brill64 Posted July 7, 2016 Share #61 Posted July 7, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Have you tried the 50MP Canon? It really is not significantly different in use than the 24MP one. More significant is the amount of people downing medium format for these high res 135 cameras. yes. it needs careful handling to avoid smearing or camera shake & to get the absolute best out of it. at this point I get obsessed about camera stability, especially below 1/250s. the results are pretty incredible, though. edwardkaraa Posted July 7, 2016 Share #62 Posted July 7, 2016 Interesting - I'd flirted with the idea of the SL but bulk and weight put me off. What were your reasons? For now, my only frustration with the M240 is the performance of the add on EVF. It's too slow, too clunky. Live view is also inadequate compared to modern systems. HOWEVER - 85% of the time the M does the job - with DSLR filling the gap. What I'd love would be the M with sufficient EVF capacity to make the M 135 A-T more reliable to focus and the make my R 80-200 f4 a useable option. If this doesn't happen, the M240 may remain a lifetime camera as the RF functionality, image quality and even high ISO do the business for my needs. The SL is undoubtedly a fantastic camera, but as an M user not interested in the huge AF zooms, I too didn't like the bulk and weight. Despite the measurements that show a moderate size, in reality, due to the protruding hand grip and viewfinder, it takes much more room in the bag than the M. The EVF is certainly the best there is, but it isn't an OVF. It is possible to focus manually very accurately but it's very slow. Nothing beats the rangefinder for fast and accurate, especially for street and people where speed is most important. Ideally, if the next M offers an auxiliary EVF of SL standard, that would be the best of two worlds. In the meanwhile, I bought the M262 for the improvements in high iso and shutter sound, and will get the next M if the EVF is as good as the SL. cirke Posted July 7, 2016 Author Share #63 Posted July 7, 2016 New problem today, I was shooting for a customer and the EVF doesn't go anymore on the M , doesn't fit into the slotI have more than enough of Leica, I paid a price for quality and it is not, the M240 is the worst camera I ever had
jaapv Posted July 7, 2016 Share #64 Posted July 7, 2016 Remove the piece of fluff that is stuck in the interface. Happens to me all the time on my iPhone. Or did you manage to bend the piece of metal on the EVF? That is what the rubber protector is for.
LocalHero1953 Posted July 7, 2016 Share #65 Posted July 7, 2016 The SL is undoubtedly a fantastic camera, but as an M user not interested in the huge AF zooms, I too didn't like the bulk and weight. If anyone tries to convince you that the SL is only a little bit bigger than the M, then you need to try it for yourself - it is bigger and heavier. And unless your eyesight demands it, I can't see a big benefit of using the SL with M lenses. I usually pick up the M with a feeling of relief. But with the SL zooms, large and heavy as they are, I find shooting assignments much easier, because I can pay less attention to focus, there is more exposure and framing flexibility, and the OIS gives me confidence in using the system hand held. Shooting at speed, I have a higher proportion of successful shots than I would with the M. IMO the SL produces better image quality than the M, but that is simply a generational difference: I expect the next M to leapfrog the SL in IQ. I like the EVF on the SL, especially the exposure preview (though it should be better), but I also like the OVF on the M. A fixed OVF has benefits which have been listed often, but so does a WYSIWYG EVF. They are different and do different things.

It obviously doesn't work for you. You paid a price for the only digital rangefinder from a boutique brand. You expected quality, but high price does not guarantee quality. They have no competition. That is what the rubber protector is for. it doesn't come from the EVF because I have 3 of them and none can fit anymore i dont understand what you mean by the piece of fluff that is stuck in the interface I see nothing inside a photo of the slot thank you ! jaapv Posted July 7, 2016 Share #71 Posted July 7, 2016 In that case Leica will have to replace the receptor slot. It is a mass-produced thingy.

AlanJW Posted July 7, 2016 Share #74 Posted July 7, 2016 My only comment on new M rumors is "where is Jono Slack?" Both he and Michael Hussman have been very quiet. That says to me that something is afoot.

Peter H Posted July 7, 2016 Share #77 Posted July 7, 2016 Dont be afraid , if they do a normal modern M with Electronic RF, they will keep a vintage line with OVF The whole point, to me anyway, of the M is that it is NOT a vintage camera but an up-to-date camera with an excellent optical rangefinder/viewfinder and, theoretically at any rate, the ability to use an EVF as well. If the next M has a genuinely good EVF attachment, and is up to all other contemporary standards for a 35mm full-frame digital camera, it will be very hard to resist. But it must not be some vintage, purist-type exercise in nostalgia. It must be the best camera Leica can produce in the M form.
jpattison Posted July 7, 2016 Share #78 Posted July 7, 2016 But erick's point is that they could provide both types at the same time. John
sblutter Posted July 7, 2016 Share #79 Posted July 7, 2016 If the next M is great and true to form & function, I'll get in line about 4 yrs after the release for a pampered used one. M240 is already all I've wanted for 40 yrs. If 240's were to suddenly vanish, I'd still be satisfied with M9, warts & all.
Peter H Posted July 7, 2016 Share #80 Posted July 7, 2016 But erick's point is that they could provide both types at the same time. John I don't personally like the approach Erick is suggesting, which has come up a few times since the SL and some of the M variants were introduced. It suggests that the M becomes a sort of nostalgic exercise while the latest technologies are reserved for other new models. I have no objection to an EVF version of the M but not at the cost of treating the real M as the "vintage" model: I want the M to be the best MF RF camera possible, incorporating the best and most up to date technology Leica can manage, which would mean absolutely rejecting Erick's suggestion that it become a Vintage option. A truly parallel option is fine though, but if the new M has a state of the art detachable EVF, I can't quite see the point.
