bab Posted July 6, 2016 Share #21 Posted July 6, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) if you want to avoid any customs issues its easy as 123 just call a customs broker in Iceland tell them you need them to handle the shipment from where ever to Iceland. the customs broker knows all the right forms to have and the people because they work with them on a daily basis, they will be able to clear the shipment in transit before it lands. Make sure to have Leica send the camera by FEDX that will also help as FEDX has customs clearance internally. Other than that you could rent or buy a S007 and then deal with the issue and the insurance or Leica after your trip. PS Maybe you should buy a Hasselblad they keep on trucking. Advertisement Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Hi bab, Take a look here My S just died. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
djmay Posted July 6, 2016 Author Share #22 Posted July 6, 2016 That's why I asked if you instead tried to contact a dealer on your own. I know of several that would have been sympathetic and might have been able to help...especially if you have the Protection plan. Jeff I contacted the dealer in Miami from where I purchased the camera. They did not intervene on my behalf. Overall, I am disillusioned about Leica capability to provide support. There are too many gaps. I have managed a global software group that ran circles around Leica's results. I am not disparaging the people with whom I spoke but the organization. I am not the only person entitled to a loaner who is not receiving it. This is very bad. Sent from my GT-I8190 using Tapatalk

Photoskeptic Posted July 6, 2016 Share #26 Posted July 6, 2016 Sorry you are having this problem. I have some issues with my S(006) but nothing I care to declare to Leica (or this forum). You would think that for the amount of money we must expend to acquire an S system Leica would be more forthcoming. I like my S but I'm not married to it. Rather than haul my heavy S around on trips I would welcome the weight and convenience of the new Hasselblad if tests prove it worthy. There have been far too many reports of problems to inspire confidence. I fear my S will end up displayed on my bookcase, something consigned to history, to be discussed in the past tense. Leica needs to step up to the plate on this one.

Sent from my GT-I8190 using Tapatalk first name(dot)last name(at)leica-camera(dot)com Probably to go to the service manager S system manager first though. I've always just contacted the management of the local distributer in a calm but firm manor and got a good response (in Oz). Dealers here are friendly but pretty impotent in my experience. EoinC Posted July 7, 2016 Share #28 Posted July 7, 2016 where did you get such numbers from? I didn't get numbers, Tom, other than watching the frequency of returns for repairs detailed in this sub-forum. I'm happy with my "M's", and like the quality of the images produced by the "S" camera and lens combinations, but the frequency of reported issues (AF motor / dead camera / armour-peeling etc) has me shying away. Being a relatively low volume camera system (again, without numbers), the users per issue appears low. I may well be wrong, but there are several owners here who, whilst happy with the images the system can produce, seem less happy with QC aspects. My expectation, as it is with other camera systems that I own, is that Leica would be paying attention to the issue-occurence rates, and the reliability expectations of high end systems. The AF issues (to me, at least) perhaps warrant a recall process. Instead, they are handled on the basis of waiting until the mechanism fails. AF is not important to me (except in another life, where I cover track cycling events with a Canon 1DX system), but is important to others, and an integral property of the "S" series lenses. Your view may differ (which is a feature of online forums).
albireo_double Posted July 7, 2016 Share #29 Posted July 7, 2016 A close friend of mine died of a heart attack this week, at the age of 48. I'd known him since high school, we shared a dorm room at university. I would gladly give up my S007 and all lenses and much more if he could still be with us. Just to put things in a different perspective.

Does put life in perspective and hope you will be able to find more focus.

I am surprised at the implication that Leica cannot keep up with loaner denand. Sent from my GT-I8190 using Tapatalk
